Just did a search on "Kaanapali", stopped counting at 400 responses

Curious that a search on that one area of one Hawaiian island would yield such huge numbers of responses, often times mentioning the same hotel and resort names in the post title, ad nauseum. Yet every day, we have more "new travelers" posting on this site "asking" about the same places and things in Hawaii, and NO ONE ever advises them to do a search of this board, as is so often the case with other destinations (like Yosemite).

Why is that? Because the travel agents who post the fake questions "respond" with recommendations about the hotel and resorts, of course. Advising someone to do a search here wouldn't give them to opportunity to bring their sales pitches to the top, now would it?

Well, we can all look forward to yet another morning of Hawaii posts all over the front page, can't we?

Hi Mr/Ms Hawaii Endless. Your statement is not entirely true. I am one person that has suggested several times that travelers to Hawaii perhaps should use the search function and/the mini-guides/rants and raves to avoid questions about the same hotels over and over. I assume, though, that people come across those hotel names by doing some preliminary research in travel guides, or whatever. And then they just post here to get other travelers' opinions. Those posts have real (and different every time) email addresses, so I assume they come from real people. Same thing in the Europe forum with repeated posts about a short list of hotels from first-time-travelers. Those hotel names come up in almost all the popular guides to Paris.
And for clarification once again, I am a Hawaii resident whose job has absolutely nothing to do with the travel industry. I tend to stay away from hotel recommendations unless I have actually stayed there myself.
Aloha,
k

How do you know all the e-mail addresses are real unless you've tried to send e-mails to all of them? 400+ huh? Just because someone makes up a name and sticks aol.com at the end of it doesn't mean it's real. Just looks better when posting fake questions.

Wow. And those 400 responses date back to February 1998. Your point is?

I just did the search too and noticed that nearly 200 of the posts are from this year alone. And for one beach area of one island! Must be a lot of things to sell there.

I also noted on another heading that someone claimed when Hawaii was a subforum, she posted a question and received no response. Probably because most of the Hawaii questions are posted and answered by a group of travel agents posing as tourists, and they figured why post when they know they are the only ones there? Can't sell hotel rooms to each other, can they?

They don't like it when you challenge them either, do they? Fodor's is a great big free target market for them and they'll do whatever it takes to stay here.

It 's true that you can make a fake email address look real. That's why I have been proponent of some form of registration. It would cut down on bashing, and it would help weed out people using this board for advertising. Face it, Hawaii is a popular destination. Check out the repetitious posts on the Paris board, too! To me, researching a trip is half the fun, and I assume other people research their trips, too.
By the way, no offense taken, just trying to make a point.

Some people on this forum are really viscious! I don't get on this site to hear all this complaining. I do it to get information. I don't care who is providing the information as long as they know what they are talking about. I am a grown-up who can make up her own mind.

Hmmmm...people here are really viscous or vicious? Either way, insults are not addressing the issues here, they are merely attempts to detract from them with high emotions and shrill namecalling. Like someone else here said, when you're on fire, catch someone else on fire. I notice that some of the same people who do this are also the ones posting the repetitive questions about Hawaii. And no, they don't like it when their presence and motives are spotlighted! They have an arsenal of insults for anyone who questions it, but no explanation or defense. Well, how can you defend something that is against the rules of the free site you are utilizing?

Still no answers as to why, when there is already an overabundance of promotion here for Hawaii, that no one is ever advised by Hawaii "travelers" to do a search.

Yes, the viscosity on this board is outrageous! And I'm a grown up!

Break off Hawaii or start registering, but something needs to be done about the constant travel agents promos. They've figured out ways to skirt around the rules and it's really out of control.

My e-mail address is real. I just left the 'h' out of 'yahoo' to avoid spam. But any net savy person can figure that out. Go ahead, e-mail to check the address if you want.

I am one of the new travelers that Endless is talking about. I searched the boards. I read the rants & raves. But I've never planned a big trip before and I wanted help. I'm worried about making such a large financial commitment to a place I've never been before.

So I posted two questions. One about "Wailea versus Hana" and the other about "Wailea versus Kaanapali." I just wanted a little information, and I thought this seemed like a friendly place to ask about things.

I guess I was wrong. Now I just feel attacked and sad. I'm going to get my travel information elsewhere from now on.

Then try buying a guide book. Nice try travel agents! Now you're posing as "wounded" newbies! Get a real job.

I bought two. What is this forum for if not for the swaping of personal stories and the insiders view? I can't get that from a book.

I have been telling the truth. And I haven't been hiding behind a fake e-mail address. You have. Which one of us is being more honest?

Damn, what is with all of the whining pathetic morons on this site? Don't you people have something better to do than bitch about who is posting what information? Who gives a damn if a travel agent posts here? And why do you label every single person that posts a suggestion, as a travel agent? In case you fools didn't know, over 2 million people a year visit Maui, so of course there be an assortment of suggestions and opinions posted here.
So get a life and shut the fu*ck up!

Yes, what could be more honest and sincere than a free Yahoo address? We should all be using that as the hallmark of righteousness. Posting a dime-a-dozen freebie e-mail address, of course, is the sign that someone is upstanding and virtuous and must never be questioned.

Now go back to booking those cruises tours, will ya?

The only way to stop these never ending Hawaii posts is through registration, which I for one heartily endorse!

Just send Hawaii off into its own little space and we'll been done with all this lunacy. No more questions or accusations because it won't be here! Let the agents and the few real travelers who actually come here for advice about the islands worry about it.
