Just back from Maui
Wife and I just returned from 10 days on Maui
Stayed at the Sheraton. did the helicopter tour of the island, old lahaina luau, road to hana, and more. Please respond or email me if you have any questions. Absolutely paradise. We are both seriously depressed, so writing about our experience may help.

hey biker, just wanted to commiserate with you. returned from maui this morning on the red eye after 5 days of paradise. now at work suffering from lack of sleep and serious maui withdrawls. we stayed at the sheraton as well, maybe we saw you there?
also, how was the helicopter trip? we were thinking about going, but opted for diving instead. if you recommend it, maybe we'll try it on our next trip there.

I am planning on going to Maui for my honeymoon next spring. We have been thinking of doing 5 nights on Maui and 3 nights on Oahu. I've read about a lot of people staying 8+ days on Maui. Is there enough to do on the one island for 10 days?
How does the Road to Hana work? It seems from what I've read it is a very popular thing to do but the highway is very narrow and has a lot of traffic. Did you find this to be true? Any hints/suggestions on driving this road.
Also what was you favorite thing to do on Maui? How did you like the Sheraton? Thanks for the help.

i think someone could definitely spend 10+ days in maui and never get bored, but it really depends on what you like to do when on vacation. there are tons of water sports and land activities offered, or you could just sit on the beach and watch the ocean.
did the road to hana on a saturday. it's really not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. the road is very curvy, and there are a lot of one lane sections, but it is very well kept up. we left kaanapali at 8 a.m. and didn't have any problems with traffic (the only difficulties was that there is limited parking at some of the popular waterfalls, so we had to skip a couple). bought a styrofoam cooler at safeway and took a picnic lunch. we thought the road was pretty, but not spectacular, the waterfalls weren't running very strong. but, the bay around the black sand beach (i can't quite remember the name) made the trip worth it 100%. definitely a breathtaking spot you shouldn't miss. i'd get a road to hana tape/cd, our hotel had them to loan.
the sheraton was a nice hotel, adjacent to black rock, which had excellent snorkeling. the best part of the hotel is the beach, but in my opinion, it's a little pricey for what you get, and you could probably stay somewhere just as nice for a little less money. the service is a little spotty as well, but overall, i would recommend it. good pool, good atmosphere, great beach location, nice room, friendly staff.
loved the snorkeling/diving. saw the most wildlife i've ever seen underwater. turtles, dolphins, reef sharks, manta rays, fish, etc.

Wondering about the helicopter tour-which company and which tour did you take-was it worth the money? We are going at the end of the month and can't decide. Also, did you book the luau and helicopter tour ahead of time? We do plan to drive the road to Hana-any other "must do's"? Thanks
