Hi Holly,

I would have skipped Sedona for Lake Powell, but since you can't take a boat or float trip, then it would be out of the way for just the Upper Slot Canyon tour.

It's been YEARS since I drove on Hwy 87 to Payson and don't remember if it was curvey or not.

I haven't been on Hwy 87 north of Winslow. I have driven Hwy 264 between Tuba City and Hwy 191 and it is very interesting and scenic. There are a couple of curvey sections. Hwy 191 is a nice road.

You might enjoy two days in Sedona, but I'd do them together to avoid packing and unpacking an extra time.

How about (if you have time), driving up through Pinetop/Lakeside. Very different scenery (almost alpine) and it will take you to the Petrified Forest. Also, you could take in Meteor Crater, just past Holbrook. Both PF and MC are well worth seeing, imho - but, as with a lot of things, it depends on your interests. (I would've missed Sedona rather than miss the Petrified Forest!)

Thank you for all of the suggestions. I have so many restrictions to work around with my friend that it makes planning really hard sometimes. She is also a Celiac, so I have to try to keep us near restaurants that can cater to her dietary needs. Staying 2 days in Sedona gives her more options for dining out. I wish I could make our stay there work out for 2 consecutive nights, but the availability isn't there at our other destinations to change it around. I'm just going to keep our itinerary the way it is and move on to planning other aspects of our visit. I may try to fit in some of the suggestions to see Prescott, etc. Again - thanks for your time and ideas!

Just an FYI, Picazzo's Pizza (there are a few around town) has a Celiac menu. There pizza is quite good!

Thanks,GiuliaPiraino. I did read about Picazzo's in my research for restaurants in the area that cater to Celiacs. My friend is really excited to try a new, safe restaurant. We also plan to eat at Outback in Flagstaff one night. I think if we call a few days before our arrival at the Grand Canyon, we can ask the chef for accomodations. Our biggest problem is in Chinle and Kayenta. One of the hotels has BBQ's so we thought we might buy an aluminum pan or something for her to cook in so there isn't cross-contamination. Some of the fast food places might work, too. I just really, really don't want her to get sick. Hopefully, all will work out!

This might help too, towards the bottom there are recommendations for other parts of Arizona. Maybe you have already looked at this site: http://www.southernarizonaceliacsupp...g/#restaurants

I hadn't seen the first website before, but had browsed the second one. Thanks for the suggestions. The trouble is finding places in northern Arizona. I couldn't even get a room with a microwave, unfortunately. She'll be able to make do for breakfast and lunch by bringing her own, but I wanted to try to get her one nice dinner out each night. I just don't think places like this exist in that part of Arizona. We'll just have to make do for a couple of nights, I think.
