I'm considering a move from the midwest to Cheyenne to accept a position. This assignment will probably last about 3-5 years. The area I am relocating from has a population of about 2M people. It is my understanding that Cheyenne has a county population of less than 100K. As a single male in his 30s, I will need things to do in my free time. Is Denver within a reasonable driving distance for cultural activities, sports, and music entertainment? Can one easily travel to Denver and return the same day? Regarding Cheyenne, what indoor/outdoor activities are there to do in the area? What's the culture like in Cheyenne? Thanks!

I've only been to Cheyenne once and my most vivid memory is that they insisted on pumping my gas there and some 300 miles later I realized they never put the cap back on -- an emblem one that cost over $100, but that's another story.

I really never thought that "culture" and "Cheyenne" belonged in the same sentence, but it is a pleasant town and surprisingly "pretty" I thought.
I do know that it is less than a two hour drive to Downtown Denver from Cheyenne, so yes you can do a day trip, and like many cities Denver would offer cheaper hotel or motel rates on weekends, so you could easily make a weekend of it.

I lived in Cheyenne back in the early 80s for one year. My recollection is that, with 50,000 people, it was one of the most populated areas in the state. The State was the biggest employer. There was also an airforce base there. Outdoor activities were big… fishing, camping, hunting, skiing. The University of Wyoming is less than an hour away; it was a big draw for sports activities. Many people went to Fort Collins to “get away”. Denver is about 2 hours trip.

We live in Wyoming, but not in Cheyenne. We love the whole Wyoming culture, but you might have to take some time to adjust -- mainly to the lack of traffic!

Denver is an easy drive from Cheyenne straight down the interstate -- probably 1.5 hours. Denver, of course, offers something for everyone. Fort Collins is just 45 minutes -- home of Colorado State University.

Cheyenne is the largest city in Wyoming. The University of Wyoming is the only four year university in the state, and is 45 minutes west of Cheyenne. Because of location, the football and basektball programs at UW get a lot of support in Cheyenne.

My wife and I live and work in Cheyenne, and with the exception of the weather we like it. It is a small city without much crime or traffic. Because of the small size 60K, there is very little culture. If you want any special info. let me know.
