From Tallahassee-
The first waves of rain & wind have just begun. Dearly beloved is taking a nap so he can stay up all night & do what!!??
Hurricane Jeanne is probably going to go wide up the Atlantic coast.
Hope we get away with nothing but a messy yard. Office is closed tomorrow.

janeg,

My daughter hopes to attend FSU next year so I'm interested in how you do up there. She has many friends there and they planned to stay no matter what. I guess at that age it sounds like fun.

All the well wishes and prayers that were sent our way when Charley and Frances hit are sent back to all of you in the affected areas.

It's 1146pm Wed eve and watching Anderson Cooper live on CNN being blown half sideways reporting the news is riveting stuff! The guy can barely stand up and the winds are "only" about 60mph or so...

I'm SO glad I live in the Northeast at times like this. My prayers go out to all those in the coastal areas that are about to get devastated by this storm. Good luck!

Thanks to the abovementioned beer, I slept through most of it. It seems NO escaped for the most part. My street in the Garden District looks okay and we never lost electricity or had really heavy wind/rain.

Dan: Cool!! Now we can relax about coming to see your great city on Tuesday.

Our thoughts are still with the other southern states not as fortunate at Louisiana was.

Dan glad to hear you are ok.

What the heck was Anderson Cooper doing? I watched as he was almost blown over. Riveting it wasn't. It's one thing to watch the weather channel people, they are trained for that, but Anderson Cooper looked like an idiot JMO.

My aunt and cousins and co. set out for Montgomery, Alabama yesterday but it seems they changed their minds and went back to Fort Walton, guided by instinct. Any news from there (Fort Walton) this morning?

Glad to hear New Orleans has been somewhat spared but praying for all those in Ivans path. Especially wondering about beautiful Destin, FL. Anyone know any specifics?

Glad to hear things are ok in your area, Dan.

Jersey, I hope your aunt is ok. At least Mobile didn't get hit as quite hard as they expected, but they still got plenty of Ivan's wrath. Please keep us posted. I hope you hear something soon.

My thoughts and prayers to all of you dealing with Ivan. I've had my TV on nothing but the Weather Channel since yesterday evening, and will continue keeping posted throughout today, as well.

We did fine across the lake from NO. Didn't even lose power & not even a drop of rain in our area. Just a bit windy so we have loads of pine straw to clean up.
The 11 relatives have decided to come tomorrow so we're getting ready.

I am disgusted with the Weather Channel. We had several relatives call because they had seen pictures of Lake Pontchartrain coming over & had heard it reported that there was extreme flooding. I even turned it on myself & heard those goofballs say it & show the pictures from last night when the lake was crashing over the seawall by Lakeshore Dr. That always happens when we get a storm wind. It is irresponsible to report that NO has extreme flooding because people watching them have no idea where in the area this is.

If anyone wants more accurate & less hysterical info then go to www.wwltv.com. They have better reports from all over the area including the Gulf Coast.

Our prayers are with the people near Gulf Shores & Pensacola. Looks like they had some bad damage.

The Weather Channel reported extreme flooding in NO? I never heard that, but did see the video of Pontchartrain overflowing.

Cut them some slack, what they do and report saves LIVES. Maybe yours someday. Anyone that stands in hurricane force winds to show a live shot of how bad it is is in OK in my book.

A friend of mine in Daphne, Alabama (east side of Mobile Bay) had very heavy wind damage to her home. Her next door neighbor with a nearly identical house in the same year had NO damage at all. Weird how these storms work.

I am with benj on the way the media portrays things. I had electricity and was watching the Weather Channel (among others) in my nice air-conditioned house while they focused on the few people who entered shelters to avoid the upcoming storm surge that was sure to kill dozens. Huh?

And Anderson Cooper!? A strong wind would blow him to the Bahamas!

No offense to the people reporting in the storm.. I appreciate their nerve to stand out in the weather & tell about it. My complaint is that they don't always verify the situation with local stations. The video they used was from 1 section of the edge of the city that always gets water in the road with strong winds. The way it was reported led people to think all of the city was experiencing similar flooding.

I am counting my blessings that things turned out so well for us. I just urge people to go online to www.wwltv.com website for a better picture of the NO situation. Having been through hurricanes here since Betsy, I am most concerned with accurate info.

I am hoping to find some accurate news about Fort Walton Beach, east of Pennsacola. My Aunt and her family are there and we can't seem to reach anybody as of last night. We're so worried. The news stations up here are replaying certain scenes of total devastation over and over again, so it's hard to determine the real situation just form watching. Can anyone tell us anything about that area please?
Thank the Lord that NO was spared the worst of it this time!

Has anyone heard from MzPossum? I don't think I've seen her post since the storm's passing.

Jersey, any word from your aunt yet?

Sognatrice, I hope you hear some good news soon.

Hi, Statia!
I hadn't checked this board recently. Would you believe it, a week later, Ivan the Terrible is back in our area as a tropical storm. In the Baton Rouge area we were very lucky, our main problem being traffic from evacuations. Now, today, we're getting rain from T.S. Ivan. Weird! Hope you're ok--I'm praying for you with Jeanne.
Also lots of prayers for Gulf Coast and all the islands hit in the last few weeks.

Glad to hear you're ok MzPossum. Yes, this is one bizzare season. My husband just made it out of Houston on his way back here before the first rains of Ivan this afternoon. Now I'm supposed to leave for Miami on Sunday, but it looks like Jeanne might interrupt that trip. And, as if that's not enough, Lisa looks to be headed my way, but who knows what in the world that one will do as it gets closer.

Stay high and dry with Ivan. I hope you don't get any flooding. I'm also concerned about the flooding with my mom and sister in Houston. I've seen Galveston on TWC all day and they aren't very far from there. TS Allison nearly had the whole city under water a few years ago.
