It's finally here.....our 1st trip to Hawaii!

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to thank all of the posters who have taken the time to answer the many questions I've asked over the past couple of months. We leave Wednesday morning for our 10 day vacation. I promise to post a complete trip report when I return. Any last minute advice will be appreciated....thanks!

Well, Lenore lots of us have not memorized where on Hawaii you are going in order to give you last minute advice. Care to let us know which island(s) you'll be visiting?

Sorry! We are going to Oahu and then Maui for five nights each. I put this information in so many of my posts, but this time I left it out. Aloha!

Have a great trip. Do not forget to use sunscreen. The tropical sun is unforgiving!

On Oahu, see Pearl Harbor. Of course, you know that. Take the time to see The Missouri; it's worth it, too.
Have a MAi Tai at the Royal. Go to bailey's antiques and get a vintage aloha shirt -- not cheap but always so beautiful and helpful staff there. It's on a street at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki, you can find it in some of the guide books.
I'm jealous. I have to wait to December to go again. Have a great time and don't let it overwhelm you -- you are in for one of the most sensory-overloading places you'll ever see. It's so beautiful there, you just won't believe it. Pictures do not do it justice, and when you get there, you'll know just what I mean.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Relax. Hawaii's a place you have to let come to you. Don't kill yourself running from this to that. Take it easy. Hawaii's a great place to just sit and look, to sit and simply be.

Lenore,

Be prepared for an addiction like no other, we went last year to Maui for 8 days and I cannot come up with a way to get back there quick enough, I can't stop thinking about the place.

2 favorites on Maui, the Old Lahaina Luau and Haleakela (it is soooo different from anything you have seen before) and the drive is cool too.

One other drive, ask a local for directions to the blowhole, which is north of Kapalua, a very cool drive as well, lots of cliffs, park and get out and walk.

Have a great trip.

Do take sunset boat ride out of Lahaina (aka Booze Cruise); the reflected light off the hills behind Lahaina is striking often with rainbows. And there's the flying fish skittering away from the bow. Magic.
Have a great time, I'm a month behind you !

Thanks! You guys are all so sweet. I just checked the weather for Honolulu on CNN's website. The forecast is for sunny skies with highs in the mid 80's and lows in the low 70's....perfect! We plan to visit the Pearl Harbor memorials, hike Diamond Head, snorkel Hanauma Bay, golf, drive up to the North Shore and possibly check out the Palace or Bishop House. In Maui we will do the road to Hana, take a helicopter tour, snorkel the Molokini bay, go on a whale watching trip, attend a luau and try to get up early one morning to watch the sunrise on Hakeakala. I sure hope we have time for relaxing! Full report on or after the 21st. Thanks Fodorites!

Wow I'm excited for you Lenore. I, myself will be visiting Oahu and Maui for the first time next month (in 39 days but who's counting?). Let me know the full details of your trip. Highlights, good and bads. We also plan on either snorkeling in Hanauma Bay or Molokini Bay (let us know which is better)... visiting the places you are also going to. Have a fun and safe trip!

can't wait for your home report. Want to check out the North Shore go to www.surfinglive.com

click on live surf than Sunset beach or Bonsipipeline. Works best if you have a DSL or T1 line.

Lenore is in the air or landing as I write this, in A-L-O-H-A land.

A moment of silence for the great ones that are actually lucky enough to travel to Hawaii today.
