Itinerary help please -Cabo or Yosemite?

Hi, We will be in Palm Desert for 1 week , starting Oct. 12th. We will have another week. Should we fly down to Cabo for the week OR drive up to Yosemite and fly out of San Francisco? We're from NY and haven't been to Cabo or Yosemite. What would you do and why?? Thanks very much. Joan

Go to Yosemite, via Tioga Pass(if not closed for the winter, but will most likely still be open). Then head home from SF.

Save Cabo for another trip. Oct in Cabo is very hot & humid.

Yosemite is beautiful in the fall and the trails are delightfully void of crowds. It's the crown jewel of the national parks and I highly recommend enjoying its wonders.

Yosemite!!! It is a wonder & every human should lay their eyes on the great valley. Oct. is a bit crisp & the falls will probably be thin or non-existent by then. But the leaves are turning, for the most part the tourists are at a minimum. Go to the Awahnee Hotel for happy hour...sit outside & enjoy.

Yosemite would be a 1,000 times better than Cabo in October! Don't even think about Cabo if those are your 2 choices. But call immediately for reservations in Yosemite Valley. They book up fast.

Yosemite is a natural wonder. Cabo is just another resort.

Yosemite. There won't be any water in the falls, but it is serene in Oct. And with a week, you can visit Sequoia (and King's Canyon) on the way there for a day or two. Another amazing place. Fly home through Fresno or San Jose.

I haven't been to Yosemite but spent last summer in Cabo and wouldn't return anytime soon. Enjoy Yosemite!

An unusual question? I think only you can make this decision based on what activities you want to do and whether you want to lay on the beach or do a lot of driving and hiking.

Both Cabo and Yosemite are two of my favorite places but they are totally different. One year we drove down to Cabo in October and had a great two weeks in Baja. It is a magical place and October usually has good weather. However, it is still hurricane season and some friends of ours were stranded there for several days one year in October after a huge storm came in from the Pacific. You'll probably be OK but just be aware of the possibility.

If you decide on Yosemite, you could always drive back to LA if that's where you flew into. It's only a couple of hours longer drive than going to SFO.

Thank you for all your responses. Before I got your replies, I had already put a bid on a Sky Auction trip to Cabo, thinking that others would outbid us. We won, then I read your answers. We'll definitely have to come back for Yosemite another time. Thanks again.

Well, I guess you all were right. We arrived in Cabo on Monday in the middle of a rainstorm (they never have rain). The forecast was luckily downgraded from a #5 hurricane to a tropical storm, so we had a few days of rain, but then it turned beautiful. It's a lovely place, but not not much to do. Next time Yosemite. Thanks again.

"It's a lovely place, but not not much to do."

Wow! That's not the Cabo we know.

I guess if you don't like the beach and don't play golf, and don't drink or party, then there might not be anything to do except gaze at the splendid scenery. I will admit that the shopping is much better in other parts of Mexico.
