Itinerary

I am planning a trip to Alaska in September. Does anyone have any advice on things to do, or places not to be missed? Also, we plan on going to either Barrow or Nome. Any suggestions as to which would be more interesting?

There was an article in the April issue of Frommer's Budget Travel that talked about using ferries as an inexpensive alternative to the large cruise ships. I thought it looked like an interesting idea. You can access the article at www.budgettravel.msnbc.com, Riding the Alaska Marine Highway

When in September? The later in the month the colder it will be getting in the northwest and arctic; by October both Nome and (moreso) Barrow in the 30s or below for high temperatures.

Denali Park pretty well shuts down around the middle of September, but other areas in Southcentral AK are great - good fall color is possible, late silvers are biting, not a bad time.
