Is United going to strike?

I heard that there was a possibility that United ground crew might be going on strike. Has anyone heard anything about that?

I flew United on 7/20 from Seattle to San Francisco. Now I understand all the discussion by the employees amongst each other regarding "votes, etc." and their very prominent union buttons.

I know understand why they were so apathetic to 4 hour plus delays on every flight. To quote the friends I was visiting in SF, "I HATE UNITED."

From what I have read, President Bush will likely block any attempts by airline employees to strike.

Of course, I'm sure there will be service disruptions as the airline workers play games such as sick-outs, and work slowdowns.

Great...we are flying United next week to Hawaii. Should we expect delays, etc? We are not seasoned flyers at all, how can we expect this riff to effect us? Do the airlines do anything to compensate its passengers for these inconveniences?

TO: The Goodlife.
Sadly, the possibility of a delay is something that those of us who fly frequently are well aware of.

Not to sound flippant, but unfortunately there is not a whole lot that you can do about it when there is a delay. Most of the time an airline won't compensate you or put you on another flight if it is weather related. Sometimes, if it is for a mechanical problem they will try and make life easier. But, don't bet on it.

I think Tim's comment sounds reasonable. Hopefully, the President will not allow an airline strike in the middle of summer.

All I can say if, try not to worry about. Think about the fun you'll have when you arrive, not problems that may or may not materialize on your flight.
