I know I know. There are probably a few of you who are going to find this question crazy. I live in Baltimore and like taking day trips, even to places off the beaten track. (I like seeing what cities are all about...even if they're not ideal.) I've read that Trenton is an old city, actually not so dongerous and often unfairly maligned. I've even heard the City Hall is quite pretty, but that the city itself is dead at night. I was thinking I might check it out on an excursion when visiting Philadelphia.

Any opinions out there?

As a former New Jerseyan, all I can say is you have got to be kidding.

I will mention two nice things about Trenton: the New Jersey State Museum and Italian food in the Chambersburg neighborhood. That's all I can think of.

If you're interested in US Revolution history, note that one of the most important battles of the war occurred at the Trenton Barracks, right next to the state capitol. Rent the video "The Crossing" (Jeff Daniels as George Washington)to learn why this event was so important.

But if you're not interested in US history, skip the Barracks and just visit the State Museum.

You're better off using the time in your Philly trip to visit Bucks County, Pa, more specifically New Hope and Doylestown. New Hope for shopping and food, doylestown for museum going. There are several museums in doylestown, in cluding the James Michner Art Museum and 'Mercer Mile', a collection of 3 separate places.

Thank you one and all for your thoughts. I am interested in American history, so the Barracks and the New Jersey State Museum sound interesting. Is the Capitol building itself worth a look-see? Also, I do love colonial architecture, so any suggestions about charming old buildings, even if off the beaten path, I would enjoy.
