I agree that this has got to be a joke. To ask if the deep south gets hot and humid in the summer, is like asking if it snows in Siberia? Or does it warm up in the summer in Phoenix? How about, does it rain in Seattle? Don't get me wrong, I could enjoy living in the South. But I would expect heat and humidity. I used to visit my grandparents in Orangeburg, SC. My grandfather enjoyed rounding us kids up at night to go hunt alligaters in the swamp around his farm. He would then proceed to frighten us all as much as he could. Although there truly were alligators eating his goats!!

I live in SC (formerly from Ohio) and the heat and humidity here are oppressive, to say the least. However, I haven't had to shovel any snow! The one town down here that for some reason always gets a respite from the summer weather is Boone, NC. It's a quaint small town, home to Appalachian U., but don't know if it's too small to fit the bill for your family. The weather there is always 10 to 15 degrees cooler than anywhere around, just delightful. Don't know about snow, though, as the area is at a higher elevation. Why not take a short trip there for a look-see.

Another suggestion would be Asheville, NC. It's in the mountains and just beautiful. They do get snow there occasionally, but it doesn't last very long. Summers can be hot, but not any hotter than anywhere else in the south. It's a very nice small town.
