Any thoughts or recommendations for the rotating restaurant in Waikiki?

Everytime I have wanted to go to the restaurant, locals have said it is not worth it. The website for the restaurant is www.topofwaikiki.com I think there are other restaurants in Honolulu that would be more memorable.

Not sure about this one, but all the roatating restaurants I've been to are more about the rotating (which makes me dizzy) and less about the food.

As above, I don't like rotating restaurants because they make me too dizzy to enjoy a meal.

Actually my daughter and new son-in-law are visiting for their honeymoon. they want to go to the rotating restaurant for sentimental reasons not the food.
what are some good restaurant in honolulu/waikiki (moderate) that you might recommend?

I am honestly amazed at anyone who would actually get dizzy in a restaurant that rotates completely once every hour but if you guys say so...

Nanabee, are they going to be there on a Sunday? If they are, i recommend they consider the Sunday Brunch on the veranda at the Moana Hotel. It is not cheap but if they want a truly "memorable" esting experience in Waikiki that definitely is it IMO...and the only dizziness might come from having too many Mai Tais.

The food is good at the restaurant.

i've been to the moana - at least i think that was the one. it is centered around a courtyard and gardens? right on the beach? the buildings are painted white? we had lunch there and it was fantastic and the food was outstanding.

Dusty, I have to give you a ton of credit. You very crisply answered the question asked. One of my pet peeves on this forum is when someone asks a question, he gets a ton of opinions and advice that have no bearing whatsoever to the question posed. There's nothing wrong with giving advice and opinions, but when I ask a question about the quaity of the food in a restaurant, I dont want to know if a person gets dizzy or whether they have bunions on their feet. All I want to know is the answer to my question. So there!

LOL! i know what you mean, but i do enjoy the personal touches, the personal thoughts and comments. I still get a chuckle about the dizzyness on the rotating restaurant!

The Top of Waikiki has had a change in chef and menu recently and the food is now fabulous IMHO!

We have had two dinners there in the past few weeks and the word is getting out about the new menu and change in food. Check it out if your in the area, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

It seems as if Waldo is the one who needs a trip to Hawaii. So there!

Must be a psychic moment, HT! I was going to say that the food was as good as a cafeteria many years ago, but thanks to their new chef, they've really stepped up the quality. The garlic steak is good...if you are into garlic and into steak! Desserts are pretty good, too.

We ate there several months ago since my daughter-in-law really wanted to. I thought the food was good - we shared a couple of appetizers, 2 of us had steaks, 1 had fish, and 1 had a chicken caesar salad. Also had a couple of desserts. Food was good. Our waiter had a little bit of an attitude like we were priviledged to have him which slightly offended my daughter-in-law but totally amused me. He was very efficient and we did tip him well. As far as the rotating-it is more than once per hour. The only time I noticed was when you stepped from the stationary part onto the rotating part. Unless you're a late diner, go about 30 minutes before sunset which is gorgeous, then watch the lights of Waikiki come on. Also, I would advise making a reservation a couple of days ahead of time if possible.

nanabee~ Yes that sounds like the restaurant at the Moana hotel. The Banyon Veranda is the fancier part up on the, well, veranda(!) then down in the courtyard under the tree is a more casual bar/cafe that has live music sometimes. Right off the beach. It is a lovely place.

Dukey, some people are more motion sensitive than others. i get seasick, airsick, don't do all that well with time changes or jet lag either. it's a curse!

To Aliceinwonderland- You are correct, I DO need a trip to Hawaii. I've been there eight times (my daughter lived there), and I still haven't had enough. I appreciate the latest contributors to this post for sticking to the subject of the rotating restaurant. How does that grab you???

We were there a few years ago. Food was not anything to rave about, but the views were spectacular. I have several pictures taken from there that are beautiful.

I checked their new website and see the hours listed are only evening ones. Are they no longer open for lunch?

No lunches only dinners 7 nights a week. Totally different menu and new chef from when you were last there a couple of years ago. Food is very good now imho
