My Mom and I went to Ft. L. last May and used Alamo. No problems at all, no line to get paperwork on car and we caught a mini bus to take us to the rental place. I think the key to not having alot of people traffic is to take the earliest flight to your destination so as to not arrive at 11 a.m., which would give other airlines plenty of time to arrive at the same destination and thus have a long line at Alamo.

Several bad experiences with Alamo in various cities. First; they routinly charge for a second driver on the contract, so for couples there goes the great price. Second; they never want to take time to look for damage before the rental goes out, but always find something wrong when you bring the car back. Third; the cars are always filthy and forget about actually getting a non-smoking car - to Alamo that's a car that has been spritzed with air fresh. Fourth; heaven help you if you have mechanical problems. Twenty miles outside the Detroit airport our tire blew. No jack in the car, no owners manual in the car (told they never keep owners manuals in the cars you must ask for one). Fours hours later, after $75 worth of cell phone calls to their emergency roadside assistance operator -who was in California, a State Trooper helped us get to the nearest town, where we were required to purchase a new tire for the car. We couldn't trade the car for a different Alamo car in the nearest town because they "are not all affiliated" and couldn't tow it back to Detroit because they "didn't have any other cars". We were then hasseled upon returning the car over the tire and reimbursement of the cost. And last; they do try to slip a lot of charges through behind your back - I've had printed confirmations from Internet bookings complete with the price and was still charged a higher rate. Explanation - "oh that's an Internet rate"! Duh!!! There are better choices. Glad to hear others agree.

I've used Alamo countless times and never had any real problems. Sure, you'll occasionally get a car that smells like a cigar, or have one with the check-engine light on, but just take it back right away; I've never had any hassle and 75% of the time they upgrade the car level for the hassle. Their quicksilver program is GREAT and their website is top-notch! I'm a web developer so I know a great web site when I see it -- Alamo takes the cake above all the competition!

I have used Alamo numerous times and their cars are absolutely horrid. Little did I know that when we got a cadillac deville that there was a crack in the front windshied right along the attachment of the windshield and the body of the car. It rained in philly, and its started leaking. Plus, I got a Park Avenue once that had the biggest dent in the side of it. Pay extra for better companies. Alamo just can lick my ass.

We chose Alamo in July in Ft. Myers, booked online ahead of time and we actually got to pick out our car from the lot, so we did get a nice one with leather interior and no problems whatsoever. However.....the girl at the counter did go over the invoice with us and she "did" circle the quoted internet price, we agreed and signed, nothing else said period, end of story, we walked away. When we turned in the car, however, another story!! We were charged almost $200 more (hidden fees and insurance that we did not need nor want) to our credit card. When we balked and complained, the guy just said "well, YOU signed the paper!" When we asked to see a supervisor we were told that there was none there, they had gone home for the day. They knew full well it was either stand there argue and miss our flight or eat the cost and complain by letter at a later date. This has never happened to us with any other rental companies. I believe we were mislead by the girl circling the price and not disclosing the fees tacked on the bottom of the paper, and it mysteriously seemed the guy at the counter when we returned the car was all too familiar with this little game because he didn't even want to discuss it. I will never rent with them again. Would rather pay more somewhere else since I ended up paying that much anyway! I'm not a business traveler but have rented enough to know when I have been screwed! Goodby to Alamo, you have lost another customer!

First let me say I'm a big National user. But occasionally we still use a travel agent and we did so when we went to Kauai last year. We waited for about 3 hours for our rental on lines that snaked out the Alamo office door. The reason being that they don't have enough cars onsite and only 3 people working at the rental counter. So after you fill in the paper work you wait for your car to get vacuumed, washed, etc.
More surprisingly it took a good hour and a half to RETURN the car.
Never again.

I used Alamo in Hawaii. On Oahu, it was a madhouse and the car was in terrible shape. On Kauai, there was a heavy hard-sell for insurance and an upgrade. I had reserved a convertible, and they wanted to upgrade me from the standard Camaro to a Sebring. The difference was that the Camaro was in terrible shape and the Sebring was new. I resisted, of course, but it was a terrible--and lenghthy--experience. On the Big Island, the rental people were fine, but the car also was a dented-up heap.

I've used alamo once or twice a year for the last 5 years out of FLL during on and off peak times. I have never had a problem. I get off the plane and go directly to the airport Alamo counter, by the time i'm done my luggage is waiting for me on the carousel. The shuttle gets me to site where i go directly to my car and i'm off.

I'm in the UK and I go to the US annually, sometime more frequently. I now make own reservations both for flights and car rental and use Alamo exclusively. In every US State I have found the staff to be helpful and courteous. I rarely have to wait long, if at all which makes a change from my experience with other car rental companies especially in Orlando or Sanford when the UK flights arrive and folk pour into those cavernous rentals halls.
Will be in FLA again in just over a week. Can't wait!
