Irelands Inn Hotel Should I stay there?
I have been to Florida many times but I have always stayed at a Marriott. I would like to try Irelands Inn because it looks so nice. Has anyone ever stayed there? Can you tell me about this place? How are the rooms? What is the pool like?

I stayed at Ireland's Inn last spring. Every Marriott I've ever stayed at is nicer than Ireland's Inn. Don't get me wrong -- Ireland's Inn was a fine budget alternative. My room was clean and basic. The food in the restaurant was surprisingly excellent, far above the usual hotel restaurant fare. But the decor in my room was pretty drab. The beach was OK. The pools are super tiny. The reason I stayed there was because it was the least expensive place I found on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale and it was only for a few nights -- I think I paid $89 per night or something like that. For that price I would stay there again, but no way would I pay more than $100 per night to stay there. They do have several different categories of rooms so maybe some of the rooms are nicer than the one I was in. But if I had a choice between a Marriott and Ireland's, and they were both on the beach and both the same price, I would definitely choose the Marriott.

Hi. I'm going to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL, from Nov 2 to Nov 10 and in May 2002. My advice is to stay in this small town, 5 miles north of Fort Lauderdale. No building can be more than 3 stories high and there are many pastel colored motels. There is a small shopping area. I usually stay at the Coral Key Inn ($59/night)(very clean place)on El Mar Drive but planned this vacation last minute - so I have to go somewhere cheaper. In Nov 2001 I'll be staying at The Best of Florida on A1A ($280/wk. for room w/queen bed). It has a key from some kind of Chambers of Commerce company, like the Coral Key Inn does. I would also recommend Little Inn by the Sea and I have personally checked out the rooms at Blue Seas Courtyard (blueseascourtyard.com). Blue Seas is a small motel but it is really pretty with a cactus garden and Peruvian inspired room and pool area. I can't imagine staying in Fort Lauderdale instead of my new found town by the sea.

Lisa,
Did you stay in the main building or the annex? The annex is across the street from the beach, I think. The other hotel I am considering is the Marriott Marina. I can get a room there for $115 a night. Irelands is about $100 per night. I have stayed at this Marriott. It is on the intracoastal. I am trying to decide if I should stay there again or go for Irelands. Your information is making me lean more towards the Marriott.

If I remember correctly there are 3 buildings. One is a high-rise directly on the beach, one is a low-rise set a few yards farther back, and one is the annex across the street. I stayed in the low rise which is sort of in between the other two. I got the impression that the oceanfront rooms were more recently renovated and may be nicer (more $$).
