inter-island flights

This is my first trip to Hawaii and need information on inter-island flight coupons. Where do you get them and what are the least expensive flights.

You can purchase one way coupons for $57 each at any travel agency in the islands.

I bought mine through www.hawaii-nei.com for 65.00 each (shipping included). The price for less than 8 coupons is 67.50 each. Good luck!

I emailed hawaii nei for some interisland travel information and didn't get a response. I emailed them again and the response I got back was just rude and tainted with sarcasm. I basically felt like I was being an intrusion to them. I took my business to another online agency and now recommend everyone I know to them. A friend of mine also tried to contact hawaiinei without knowing of my experience, and was told that she would get something through FedEx. She got nothing. When she called them to find out about the package, she was spoken to very rudely. She asked a few basic questions about her itinerary and again, was given the impression that she was being an inconvenience to them.
She cancelled her plans and went with the same online company that I did.

In my opinion, their customer service sucks. I didn't pay anymore money by going through another company, and I got 200% better customer service.

Pam,
Can you tell me which agency you ended up with? I also emailed Nei requesting some pricing info on my itinerary and have not gotten a response from them. I don't feel like waiting for them so I'll just take my business someplace else. Thanks.

Not to minimize your bad experience with them, I just did not find that at all. I clicked on their "live help" button (during business hours of course) and a customer service rep. came on within seconds, and was very helpful. I think that no matter where you go there are bound to be good and bad experiences, I just wanted to share my good experience. (Now, if I don't get my coupons as promised, I will definitely let you know!) Good luck with whoever you do go with! Kristin

I reserved directly with aloha this past summer (Aug)and then picked up the tickets at the airport. It was completely hassle free. I paid $120 round trip. I would have liked to have my tickets in hand just hopping on that connection.

I would suggest that if you even know you are going directly to Maui, Kauai or Kona by a direct flight anyway. I know I am a big fat complainer here but I hate the jaunt and wait at honolulu airport for the connecting flight after my 10-12 hour mainland flight.

But thank you all for bringing me out of my Monday Morning blahs by discussing this topic. Just love this place above all others.

Sara, I'm going to Maui and Kauai in September. Is this the best way to do it: get a round trip flight to Maui and then buy connection to Kauai? Or could I actually fly into Maui, connect one way to Kauai, and fly home directly from Kauai? (Economically?)
Which airlines fly direct to Maui and Kauai? Thanks from a newbie!

Kay,

I was unwilling to pay the high price of up to $200 round trip from Honolulu to Kauai (a whopping 30 minute flight)when I called the airlines directly. I didn't want the hassle after a 12 hour trip with 4 kids of tracking down a coupon book. If you are flexible with the times, try travelocity. I got our tickets for $111.00 round trip which beat the coupon prices anyway. Good luck!

Hawaiian Airlines has a promotion on their website (www.hawaiianair.com)for e-tickets at $49.99 each way. This beats the coupon book price.

To find cheap inter-island coupons, check online with Aloha Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. Ask for special deals and coupon booklets. I'm not sure if they still offer it, but the airlines used to offer a special ticket that allows you unlimited flights between all the islands. When I'm not purchasing directly from Aloha or Hawaiian, I buy tickets from "Panda Travel" (check out their website). I've never heard of Hawaii Nei! Panda has online service. They are extremely reliable and professional. I purchase about 8 coupons each month. Panda has very good service.

Just a note: The $49.99 flights on Hawaiian Air are extremely limited, the price doesn't include the tax or booking fees, and there is a penalty to change them. That is why the $65 coupons made more sense for me...taxes were included, I could fly anytime, and if I change my plans, there is no fee to change the tickets. It all works out in the end. )

I booked yesterday with Hawaiian air and got two one-way tickets from Honolulu to Maui for $106 (that's $53.00 each) including taxes and everything!

Received all of my coupons (and a bonus Hawaii calendar to count the days!) as promised, 8 days after ordering from hawaii-nei.com. Would still recommend them. Hawaii, here I come! )
