Informal NYC GTG - Labor Day weekend?
I just found out that I will be in the city over Labor Day weekend. Any Fodorites going to be there who might like to join up for a meal, slice of pizza, dessert, or even just a coffee? I know there's an "official" GTG in NJ, but wondered if anyone is up for an "unofficial" GTG.

Hey starrsville, I just went searching and dug out this post. Looks like it totally dropped off the radar! I was going to respond on Wed, but the site was so kooky I could barely get anything posted. So here I am in the middle of the night, tracking you down...LOL.
There's a good chance I'll be in the city that weekend. I'd be up for meeting up. Anyone else game?

I'm in too, be nice to meet you guys. Do you have a spot in mind? What day works in your schedule, since I live here, I'm available whenever it's convenient for you.
I can recommend a few places if you would like.

Just about any time and anywhere is fine for me right now. I haven't made any specific reservations.
Location - suggest away!
Time - maybe late afternoon/ early evening on Saturday? Timed so if visitors to the city have matinee tix they can join afterwards, but early enough not to interfere with everyone's evening plans?
Friday afternoon/evening is out for me.

Well, if it's all locals coming (except me) I could do Wed night (which doesn't work for ggreen) or Thursday night.
Anyone interested in Thursday after work? I'm hoping to catch up with friends in the city - before they head out to the hills (literally).
Right now, I'm at W 51st, but will be playing the Priceline game. I plan to bid MTW, Central Park South, or UWS - but I can meet anywhere really.

I think the thing I have to go to is from 6-8p on Wed eve. (I begin grad school the day after Labor Day, thus the reason why I'll likely be in town over the long weekend, nervously sharpening my pencils! LOL It's been a loooong time since I took a class!) Wed eve is a "welcome reception", so it should be pretty flexible with the timing.
If not Wed or Thurs, I like the idea of Sat late afternoon... How's that for not making a decision?
STW, good luck with the interviews!

topping - I'm going to top about once a week
My friends and I are hooking up on Thursday night so best for me right now are Wed night or Sat afternoon (after a matinee). Wed is only if ggreen thinks she can make it.
Good luck on the interviews stw - and safe travels on this trip. Pack already!

Hi STW!! Every GTG can be an "official" GTG. We certainly don't corner the market with our 2x a year!
I have no idea what we'll be up to for Labor Day...no plans yet. So, if we're around we'll try to make it! Trish

I would love to still do this. Saturday afternoon sometime? After matinee times and before dinner times to give folks flexibility? I've not booked my shows yet, so I'm wide open right now.

There's now a chance I may be away over the Labor Day weekend... but since I don't have any concrete plans, I'm going to keep the option open for being here for the NYC GTG. And I can certainly help in the planning.
What type of a place are we looking for? There are some nice dessert-oriented places, especially on the UWS and the Village. Or is a meal more in order? And excuse me for my ignorance, but what time are matinees over? (All these years living here, and I've never once been to a matinee show!!) Lastly, are there any neighborhoods in addition to the theater district that people would prefer?
