Info re: Nantuckett

Thinking about Nantuckett for a few days in July, 2000 for an anniversary. What about Roberts House Inn? Things to do? Places to eat - romantic for anniversary? Is it worth taking a day trip to Martha's Vineyard? Thanks for any info.

Nantucket is a wonderful romantic place. You won't need nor should you take a car. It's easy to get around. If money is no object stay at the Wauwinet Inn otherwise any of the B&B's or small inns in town. I would skip Martha's vineyard. Spend your time in Nantucket. The Whaling museum is good. There are historical homes you can tour. Shopping is good. The restaurants are all excellent. Make reservations before you go.

Greg--Martha's Vineyard is a far ferry ride for just one day so I would skip it too. July will be very crowded so if you can afford it I would also suggest Wauwinet which is more secluded but Roberts House would be nice too. We just had dinner at American Seasons which is pricey and reservations are essential but it was wonderful. A fun place and not as fancy is the Nantucket Trap restaurant.
If you like to ride bikes Nantucket is perfect with lovely trails.

Have fun--I would make all your reservations well in advance.

If you're only going for a few days, I'd skip Martha's Vineyard. Too many day-trippers in July to really enjoy yourselves. As for a romantic dinner, highly recommend the Summer House in Sconset. "Casablanca" to the max. After dinner, it's wonderful to enjoy coffee or a drink on the porch with the piano music wafting out the windows on one side and the moon over the lapping waves on the other. Be sure to book dinner reservations way ahead. And, now would not be too soon to book a room for July - and, most establishments have minimum night requirements in July.

I have a rental property in Nantucket and have been going there every year for at least seven years. I have never been to Martha's Vineyard and have absolutely no desire to go there! I love Nantucket!
My favorite romantic restuarants are The Company of the Cauldron which serves only one menu a night and has a harpist. (Call for menu in advance.) Also The Summer House. If price is no object go to Toppers at the Wauwinet, but there are many other good restaurants which are not as pricey.
(Do NOT go the the Nantucket Lobster Trap-- go to the Seagrille instead-- best chowder on the island in my opinion!)
My 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath house is available the week of July 9th, but it will get booked soon-- if interested call ASAP.
Whatever you do, do make reservations soon for July...
