Info on King of Prussia, PA
Hi,
Considering relocating to this town. I know absolutely nothing about Pennsylvania (I'm from the West). I'd appreciate any information, good or bad, about this city. How is the cost of living? And most importantly, what airport is easiest to fly in and out of?
Thank you for the help.

Linda, I live a few miles away. K of P is really just about the mall, it's not really a town. Philadelphia Airport is about 45 minutes away, if traffic is good. I've lived in the area most of my life, there are lots of pluses. Let me know if you have any other questions.

King of Prussia is about 25 miles away from Philadelphia which is the closest major airport. Lots of 'white color' office jobs and big companies in the 15 mile radius, home of one of the most beautiful malls I've been - King of Prussia mall, close to Valley Forge National Park. Lots of shops, restaurants. Its an all-right area to live, but also keep your eyes open for heighboring little towns (Blue Bell, Malvern, etc.) which may also be a great choice to reside. Bottomline - its a good area to live.

As others have noted, KOP is mostly office parks and a (huge) mall, although there are a few residential areas. The towns there just flow into each other.
Re airports, Philly is the closest (thanks to the Blue Route) but a second choice is ABE airport (Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton). Once you learn the back roads*, you can get there from the KOP area in about an hour and the airport is a breeze to deal with--compact, parking close and cheap, helpful staff. Nothing to do there, though, if you have a long wait. Still, on holiday periods when I just can't stand the thought of Philly airport crowds, I fly in and out of ABE.
* getting off at the Quakertown exit instead of Lehigh Valley and then cutting through some pretty countryside (with NO traffic) over to Route 378. More details later if anybody wants them.

I live in KoP and take offense to it not really being a town. It is not an old town with a main street - no - but It is a nice community with GOOD schools! In addition to it encompassing Valley Forge National Park, KofP is located at the entrance to the expressway and turnpike. Since there is easy access there is alot of industry including the 2nd largest Mall in the US., Lockheed Martin and other big companies are here. With all the industry the taxes are low!
One negative is traffic near the expressway and turnpike.

My guess is that you're looking at KofP because that's where your job is located. If so, I'd suggest you broaden your search a little -- there are many good areas surrounding KofP. Much depends on how long you're willing to drive to get to your job.
As for KofP itself, I'd say the biggest drawback is the traffic there. The mall (that's been mentioned by others) is a magnet for traffic, plus it's near at the meeting spot of three major roads -- PA Tpke., Schuylkill Xpressway, and Route 202. People avoid area at rush hour there at all costs.
All in all, the western and northwestern suburbs of Phila. (where KofP is located) are considered desirable places to live. They're growing rapidly, while most of the rest of the state shrinks, and property values are high, although nowhere near what they're like in Boston, NY, or Wash.
Hope that helps.

I have worked in King of Prussia for 30 years. It is definitely a residential area and a great town. The schools are wonderful and Upper Merion Township has the lowest property taxes you'll find in PA. There is a lot of industry and the mall. The above posters are correct in advising you to look into the surrounding suburbs also.
