Info for I-5 to 101 North

Hi everyone, I am going to leave Anaheim and go to Universal Studios. I need to know what lane I need to be in when I get to the exit for the 101 North. My trip software said left side but when I was there 5 years ago I thought we exited on the right. Also for the return trip what lane do I want to be in on the 101 exiting to I-5. What will the traffic be like on the weekends compared to the weekday? Thanks!

left, and there is plenty of warning. The 5 splits in east LA, the 5 says "Sacramento" and "Golden State Freeway" and takes off to the right.

If you leave your software at home and just read the freeway signs you will have no problem whatsoever. The freeways are well marked.

Agree that freeways are very well marked, but it doesn't hurt to plan ahead. There is a special freeway map of LA which is very simplified but quite good in that exits are clearly marked and you can plan ahead several exits before your turn. Think it comes from the AAA. The 5 to 101 is very easy. And, to answer the second part of your question--traffic on weekends is still quite heavy but you won't experience the extreme traffic during rush hours. Take advantage of the HOV lanes and please, most important, use your turn signal. LA drivers are actually quite good--they drive fast but are courteous for the most part.

Thanks for the info everyone. I feel much better now about having to drive to Universal. I do remember last time we drove in California and the drivers are good at makeing a spot in the next lane if they see turn signal on.
