It would take longer to get downtown via Muni from the motels along the ocean than from the motels near the airport via BART.

Maybe, but at least on the N-Judah one would be closer to a variety of restaurant choices (on Irving in the 20s for the Chinese shopping/restaurant area; the Inner Sunset; Cole valley) and both lines would offer access to the ocean. All in all, more pleasant than an airport motel.

The Mosser Hotel on 4th and Market Streets is within your budget, a block from a BART station and great location.

Hi got a deal at King George near union square for 105 dollars queen room...hope it's ok

We stayed in the Holiday Inn Express on North Point Street. It wasn't too expensive and included breakfast.
Very convenient for Fishermans Wharf and transportation.

You did well! The hotel has lots of SF character and the location is perfect.
