iMMEDIATE NEED - Williamsburg on a rainy day?

Wife, son and 10 yr friend on route (or arrived) in Williamsburg. Just got phone call. They have hotel and had planned on day at Busch Gardens (don't have advance tickets, thankfully). They are looking for rainy day activities for today. Trip continues tomorrow on Eastern Shore. Any ideas for today??

Don't know if they are locked into their hotel, but you could look at the Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg. This is a lodge and indoor water park in one. I believe that in order to use the indoor water park, you at least have to also rent a room, if only for the day (they may have different rates for daily use as opposed to an overnight stay). Here is their website

Colonial Williamsburg's Visitor Center is the best place to begin a visit, regardless of the weather. They should see the short movie, "Story of a Patriot" and spend some time in the shops.

What a shame! Today is a total washout so far.

Great Wolf Lodge is a great idea but will be a pricey one! They might have a two night minimum given that it's spring break.

Jamestown Settlement (as mentioned) and its partner down the Colonial Parkway, Yorktown Victory Center have some indoor stuff. Virginia Living Museum down in Newport News. Bowling. Movies. Ice Cream. There is a paint your own pottery place in town.

Some of these might be pale seconds to a day at BG, I realize.

I heard it might clear up later. Hope so.

I've got a house full of teenaged girls irritable that they can't go Busch Gardens today. My empathy to your friends.

Thanks - the boys were REALLY psyched up for 8 hours at the theme park.

I'll pass on the tip for the short film and the shopping - it should help for a while (at least for DW). They are all hoping weather will clear up at least for this evening.

And, yes, they are locked into their hotel (priceline).

I'm willing to take the rain. Please send it towards Durham.

I hope everything works out for the trip.

Dang it! Posted on the wrong thread. Sorry! But while I'm here...I don't know what time BG is open until tonight. Maybe they can still get their theme park fix by going to some shows while it is raining and then doing the rides. It is supposed to stop raining this evening.

I also think your boys would like Birdie's suggestion of the Hampton A&S museum & IMAX. Might like a harbor cruise too, if you go to Norfolk and while I think Nauticus is closed Mondays I believe you can still visit the battleship and the small naval (navel??) free section too. (It's a maritime exhibit, not belly-buttons - lol)

Birdie- are you predicting a return of Hampton Roads Tunnel tolls?? (kidding)

rb - I live in Virgina Beach and believe it or not, the local news has been saying for months now that within the next few years, they are supposed to return tolls to the HRBT.
