Ignore the Meanies
Hey everybody,
If you suspect a troll, or read a cruel reply, please just ignore it. Don't give these time wasters the time of day, and maybe they will just go away. Replying to their bizarre comments justs fuels their attention-deprived egos. By giving them what they want, we go off on tangents, and deprive the true inquiries of their replies.
Try this experiment: For one week, refrain from replying to anything that makes your blood boil. Maybe they will leave. (Although, they're sure to return the following week, when they know the "experiment" is over!
)Thanks.

Beth-The first amendment guarantees the freedom of speech in this country even if we do not like it or agree with it. One of the beauties of the internet is the freedom of speech and thought it allows. If this forum was nicey-nice all the time and sweet, it would be a boring place. The controversies allow freedom of exchange of ideas and liven the place up.

Hi,
A post like this one is doomed from the start because it begs to have someone say "nay" or respond to something in your post like "attention-deprived egos." It reminds me of how certain 8th grade girls used to say, pointedly, to someone they wanted to put down, "just ignore him/her and he/she'll go away." Saying it out loud is not the same as doing it without comment -- the act of saying "ignore them" is itself provoking.
"XXXX's" response is a great example -- XXXX is one of the prime offenders here and that 1st Amendment stuff is just smoke. This is not a government-sponsored arena nor a newspaper, it's just a cyber-coffee-klatsch. I absolutely agree with you, Beth, that if no one reacted to the jerks, they would go away; trouble is, not everyone agrees on who the jerks are. Anyway, all it takes is two jerks arguing with each other -- and there are at least two jerks reading any given thread at any given time!
