If you could only do one "planned"/payed for activity on the BI hawaii, what would you do?

Looking into a snorkel trip through Fairwinds, or the tour of Mauna Kea sunset and stargazing, possibly Waipo valley guided tour...I have heard great things about all three. Would love a helicopter tour, but husband refuses.

Any advice, is one of these sights or tours better than the others? What cannot be missed?

Also, any advice for a "must see" on the kona side that we could do on our own?

You picked three good paid tours. Other suggestions on your own: Hike down the Palolo Valley trail to the black sand beaches; the Painted Church, the Place of Refuge; and the Original Hawaiian Chocolate Factory.

Of course all three of your selections are different so it depends on what interests you more. The snorkel trip is great fun, if you're into astonomy Mauna Kea is nice and the Waipio Valley is also a nice excursion. If you do the Mauna Kea tour, it is COLD up there on the mountain so pack some warm clothes.

Agree with elkhound on all his/her suggestions. You might also drive to the black sand beach at Punalu'u and see the turtles, snorkel at Kahalu'u Beach Park, lunch in Hawi or lay on the beach at Hapuna.

I second the Fair-Winds II snorkeling trip. Just did this two weeks ago and loved it.

The snorkel trip tp K-Bay through Fairwinds. We've done it twice, and it's great!

I would choose Mauna Kea trip -- especially if it is snow-covered. The views and the experience are fantastic. You can snorkle on your own; Waipo Valley was pretty but nothing compared to the scenery you will see on the road up Mauna Kea. Enjoy.

If you can only choose one? That's a tough one, but I would do Mauna Kea. That's just me, though.

If you do choose Mauna Kea, make sure it's on a clear night. Every time I've gone up it's been cloudy and though you are above the clouds (pretty cool)there wasn't anything to see but clouds.

I loved the snorkel trip to K Bay. We did a helicopter trip in the am then snorkel trip at 1:00.

The helicopter trip was just okay compared to the snorkeling that was amazing.

I just love the Humuhumunukunuku fish!
