I travel a lot by car. What's the weirdest thing you've seen on the highway, either on the side of the road or on it?

I agree with Jan - that cat story was awful! A story with a happier ending happened to my Dad. He was driving very slowly with his dog Noodles in ther car. He had Noodles tied to the door handle inside the car (I have no idea why.) Anyway, he says that he glanced in the side view mirror and saw Noodles running for all she was worth. He did not want to step on the brakes for fear that the dog would get tangled up in the wheels. He says that he took his foot off the gas and reeled her in like a fish, hand over hand. Her paws were bloody but she recovered and lived to an old age.

Returning from Reno just outside of Susanville, long high desert straight away...petal to the floor,look ahead and see a small dark object in the middle of my lane..closing fast I let up on the gas,at about 300 feet, I see its a duck. Duck starts running down the road straight ahead before taking flight..finally takes to the air but still going straight down the road in front of me..I catch up to it doing about 40 with it about 5 feet off the ground . We must of traveled for 100 yards with this damn duck flying almost over the hood of the car before it decided to fly off the road.

1979, Bayshore freeway.
The fleet was in town, we're driving north after visiting Marriott's Great America. In front of us, 2 sailors decide they're too hot, so they slimb up and sit on the window ledges of the rear doors, each drinking a beer.
Then, 'cuz they must have been bored, the guy on the right climbs onto the roof of the car!
We almost got killed slamming on the breaks because we didn't want to run over this poor b!@#$%^ if/when he fell off.
1972, 495 around DC...the road to nowhere. Traffic backed up for miles while a destroyer went up th Potomac. Did you know that there's a drawbridge on the f!@#$%^ interstate?!
