Check out the Largo Lodge on Key Largo, the rates seem very reasonable and it looks nice.

The fact that you will be going in May gives you many more options because rates can be much lower and because parts of FL which are too cold to enjoy watersports and swimming in the winter should be okay by May.
Check out www.travelbase.com, it is an extensive database of hotels throughout the U.S. with links to their own websites.
You may want to consider renting a private home or cottage which can give you more privacy and be much cheaper.

Captiva Island is a terrific place for a honeymoon. It's more similar to an exotic island than anywhere else in Florida. Great uncrowded beaches, wonderful restaurants, cruises to other islands, and you can walk or bike the entire island. Visit www.vacationspot.com and key in "captiva" in the search area for privately owned pool homes or beachfront condos. May's rates are the lowest of the year!

You can have a good time in Florida but check out the crime statistics and the environment. The tourist industry has the tendency to de-emphasize potential crime areas or safety hazards. Florida can be a fine place for spending a honeymoon but be careful not to get yourself into a potential safety trap. You might want to look at my subforum, "Florida Is Still Unsafe".

My vote would be either Captiva or Sanibel Islands on the west coast. They are connected by a bridge just off of Fort Meyers. Both have a no high rise policy and one feels like they are really on vacation. I much prefer that spot over say Marco Island which is nice but more definitely a city. Sanibel and Captiva are great for shelling. My macho husband got obsessed with collecting shells. Sunsets are the best and a bike is the way to get around. Lots of wonderful restaurants and accomodations are not crazy priced. Mostly mom and pop type places with the exception of South Seas Plantation and their affiliate motels. Snorkeling will probably be a disappointment. Only the Keys offer good snorkeling. Nothing like St. John's or Hawaii around. However lots of dolphins jumping and rays do splash with a wild birds all around. Sand dolars and horseshoe crabs are in the very shallow water that surround the island. You have to walk way out to get shoulder deep. Very tropical with cute shops. E-mail me if you like. I would fly inot Fort Meyers but flights into Tampa might be cheaper with a 3 hour ride down. Naples makes a great day trip. Hey I am thinking I want to get out of Seattle and go too!

Hi! I am honeymooning in Key West in APril and have found wonderful accomodations @ www.keywestparadise.com
and they have so much info. Also, after April 30 is when the winter rates fall and everything is MUCH more reasonable. You will definately have a blast and it is so romantic. If you have further interest in Key West, feel free to email me, I have collected tons of info and sites to check out.
Good luck.
