I-90 Closed at Sno Pass - Alts?
Just in case some knowledgeable person happens to be on line in the next two hours, how would you drive west to Seattle from eastern Washington with I-90 closed at Snoqualmie Pass?
Would you go to Stevens Pass, White Pass, or would you drive the distance to the Oregon line and on up I-5 from Vancouver WA? (or is there another route?)
Hubby was at Dad's wkend at WSU, and like thousands of others, is hoping to get back home tonight!

It took my husband 10 hours to return from Pullman last night (normally under 5 hrs). I-90 westbound will be closed for days, weeks, who knows? They need to stop the rockslides.
Hubby did go on US 2 but traffic was bumper to bumper. This is how fast it was going: The car in front of him had a flat. Hubby got out of his car and went up and told the guy. The guy pulled over; changed the tire, and got back in line, 2 cars behind my husband! Apparently there is a stop sign in Leavenworth that had traffic backed up for 11 miles on Hwy 2. You'd think the State Patrol or police could have hand directed traffic, given the back-up.
So, for the future (Thanksgiving looming), which is generally a faster alternative to I-90, 2 or 12? Or is it better to go the long way, around to I-84 and up I-5 from Portland? I realize weather is a factor if it snows. For the nitty gritty details, I didn't find the wsdot website particularly helpful.

I am glad to hear he made it home safely. That is a long trip though. Have you thought about having your child fly home for the holiday instead of driving? That might be a lot easier. Otherwise, I would stick with either White Pass or Stevens Pass, with my personal preference being Stevens Pass.

We'll have to look at flying as an option if the pass is still closed. I think the school runs buses between the campus and Seattle, also, and that might not be too bad, as she'd be with other students.
We hope for snow so our son can go snowboarding and we hope for dry weather so the pass will be open....Now is it that we can't lose or we can't win?
