Hyatt at Fisherman's Wharf

I just got 2 nights for $76/nt. Is this a central location to the local tourist areas?

What is the most economical way to get there from Oakland? I don't want to pay for a taxi.

Thanks in advance.

Fisherman's Wharf is central to itself - which is a tourist area - but is not central to other areas. If you are relying on public transportation (e.g. the cable car), you can wait in a very very long line from FW to get one. A taxi doesn't cost too much, however.

Personally, I would hate to stay at FW...INCREDIBLY touristy.

FW is fine. It is a touristy area, but if you are interested in seeing touristy things, then it's a good location.

There are plenty of other transportation options for getting around the city besides the cable cars and taxis. Cable cars are great and you should definitely take a ride on one during your visit, but don't plan on using them to get around the city.

The F streetcar line runs along the piers and then up Market St - this is a line of historic streetcars from around the world. It's a lot of fun. There are also several buses that go to the FW area.

For transportation from Oakland to FW, you could take the BART into downtown SF and then take a bus or the F line to FW, or you could take an airport shuttle.

I stayed there a few years back. It's a great location, withing walking distance to the wharf. Sure it's touristy, but so what? Union Square is just a regular city center with clothing, electronic stores, etc. You can always take a local tour or trolley to see the other parts of the city. The Hyatt is like other Hyatts, gorgeous lobby, ok rooms. Take a tour of Muir Woods, it's beautiful.

How much luggage do you have? What time of the day are you arriving? Shuttle to BART, BART to Embarcadero, and then either bus or taxi, I don't know where Hyatt is, so can't tell the bus #. Check SF MUNI website.

Thanks for all your posts. I'll be looking into shuttle vans. This seems like a compromise between $$$ and $. I'll be there 5/14-16. Haven't really thought about a formal tour, but I like the idea. I will be looking at Muir Woods tour. Any recommended City Tour Bus Company? Thanks.
