> HEY > HEY > HEY...
Let's leave my balls outta this argument!!!

"KAUAI IS GOOD...IT NEVER RAINS...THERE IS NOT TRAFFIC....IT'S BRIGHT AT NIGHT....THERE ARE NO ROOSTERS OR CHICKENS....OR BUGS....OR MOSQUITOS....OR GEKKOS....IT'S REALLY INEXPENSIVE AND THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS TO DO........"

Cali,
I could have said Dr Josef Mengele's nurse but I couldn't ID her...besides, look what a firestorm that was started with Nurse Ratchet.
Now, I've got to go...I'm late for a one on one half court basketball game with Chief Push Broom and Martini is reffing.

I've come a long way since first posting here long ago....I remember when I was accused of being a Hawaii TA...then the Florida v. Hawaii wars....then a case of "It always (fill in the comment on Kauai", the Coconut Coast is ugly, don't stay there etc etc...

Bottom line to me and most of my local friends on Kauai, too many tourists on too small of an island so if all my "Borgies" will repeat after me "Maui Mo' Bettah...Maui Mo' Bettah...Maui Mo' Bettah"....

If you're in SF tomorrow, drop by Kuleto's Wine Bar around 4-5:00 pm and I'll buy you a drink...if Faina hasn't drained the bar by then calling it "migraine medicine".:-"

Oh...and by the way....I'll never change. >-

CaliNurse

You can't have it both ways darling. Simply accept that fact that you sent out a war call and then a bad post...which you wouldn't make jokes about unless you were trying to save face: and stop tryin to esplain yourself as a warm fuzzy bear. You attacked a group of people. We're thick skinned. But don't ignore your own words to deflect off yourself. I guess, but do not know that right about now you are wondering "Why did I start this thread at 2:54 AM? Why indeed.

Gyppie, DARLIN' it ain't both ways. Forgive me.Yes, i do joke, and did long before I started this post.
It was 11:54 pm when i wrote this. Fodors uses E. Coast time. And the full moon had passed.
'Nuff from me with, as the French say, "sending flowers.'
Amazing what peole take as "personal attacks' Read some of the responses to me, and you'll see some good ones . Warm fuzzy bear, eh? gee, I'd never thought of myself that way.
What is that expression?--"sarcasm is the lowest form of wit "(even though it's, admittedly, irresistable).

Thanks Kal. I'll try to take you up on that drink tomorrow--if everyone will promise not to skewer me with toothpicks. I'll bring some defensive weapons,10 cc syringes, just in case.
Should I wear my nurse uniform so you all will know where to aim Better yet, pull a HRH Prince Harry and show dressed as a Nazi?
J/K!!!

I think a major point is being missed here.

We haven't heard from any newbie Kauai posters who felt excluded by this so-called "clique". I haven't seen anyone post that they were disappointed that their OWN POST was highjacked. For others who felt that they had to read through the banter to get pertinent information -- isn't what the scroll bar and scroll wheel on your mouse are made for??

I repeat - I was a Kauai newbie earlier this year and I felt welcomed, rather than excluded, by the so-called "Klique." ~gt;

Well OK then... I'm not a newbie poster but do need information on Kauai for an potential family trip.

And quite honestly it is the one and only locale on Fodors that I don't ever bother opening up the posts for because there is rarely information, just fun chat of an in-crowd and insider jokes.

I don't resent or begrude it because the participants sure seem to be having a ball, but it's of no use to me as a first timer trying to actually do trip planning. Again my comment is softly spoken because I horse around plenty on this board.

Ooops, before ya all start yellin' at me... I shouldn't have said there isn't information posted, because maybe there is... rather it is fairly WELL buried among all the funnies.

Bring you questions on Suze. Start a new post and we will respectfully come and tell you all there is to tell, including the facts that rain, roosters and scary surf rule during parts of the year. It is a dark island, there are mosquitos. We jest, we joke, but our message is real and truthful.

Don't go changin' to try and please meeee....

I have seen the horrors of Kauai and agree that Maui is mo betta. I do love that Kauai gang, though. They really helped me when I was planning my trip a couple of years ago. And WHO does not LOVE to find that Kal has placed a witty reply upon their humble post?

Kal: Thanks for the redeeeming yourself! That's more LIKE it! Ha!

And TWIMC (that's insider talk for to whom it may concern ): Prior to our trip in July, I had researched on this board about going to Kauai. Regretably, we had to forego that island this year, but everyone was VERY helpful with the info!

I especially recall gyppielou, auntimaria (who also assisted me with info about Oahu) Bonniebroad and some others. Several gave me their email addresses for more personal info...so you see, not all the help is visible on Fodors!

And suze: If you never posted, how could you expect to get the help you wanted?

I really believe, even if a thread is hijacked to some extent (you know normal conversaions tend to wander at times!), if the original poster is not getting the info, and they again state so, they usually get some help...I've seen this several times, and have done it myself!

Anyway, as my mother would say, Ya'll better behave yourselves, or I'm gonna make you kiss and make up! LOL!

Belle

Yes, there is a clique that thinks because they have get togethers they control the board. Their opinions and nonstop personal bantering is the only one that matters, don't you know that by now? The best though are their self absorbed threads dictating which comments should go where according to their own likes and dislikes. By the response here they obviously don't care how much the personal chat and heckling bothers anyone, especially newcomers, why bother. But I do agree with Calinurse.

Ok, not new to the board but to the HI posts so here goes...

I wanna go to HI.I really, really, really want to go to HI!! I wanna use miles and fly biz class and go around Xmas/New Years. I wanna nice places to stay and have never been. What islands should I concentrate on? (I'm too lazy to do research and the search function doesn't always work.) Oh, and I accept monatary handouts cuz I hear that HI is very, very expensive. Can you help

Actually I'm only half-kidding (does that make me a bad person?) My DH and I do want to go to Hawaii and have just started the very preliminary research. I can't say that the joking around I see on the HI bothers me in the least. In fact, I like it and makes for a good read. I think most of us here are smart enough to be able to pull out the tips and recommendations between the banter, even if you're not a member of the in-crowd!

Okay, OWJ, but just remember...you asked.

You must go to my favorite island - because it's the only decent one and all the rest are tourist traps.

You must stay in the place I stay - because all the others are tourist traps...or slumming.

You must eat in the "must" restaurants - because I'm a foodie and you should be one too.

You must use the coupon book - and I'm selling mine with all the good coupons already used.

You must do the drive to Hana...no, it's a tourist trap and not worth the drive. Darn! I can't remember the right answer anymore!

Just kidding (sort of). I've gone several times - on my own tix and not - so have lots of ideas and preferences. I'll be glad to share. But, one thing I really do believe - no matter what you want to see or do and how you want to travel (luxury or budget) there's a wonderful travel experience for everyone on every island. My favorite is probably the Big Island, I do like Oahu (gasp), enjoyed Maui but probably will not go back, and Kauai is gorgeous.

As I "newbie poster" I recently asked for some advice on Kauai. It is true that as I read older Kauai posts, I needed to sift through the banter and sometimes simply moved on to another post to get more serious opinion, and just to save time. To be honest, it is a little frustrating to see that this post has 58 current responses, and I see so many with no response.

My final take is that I am now more uncertain about Kauai than ever. I think posters share an opinion that it is beautiful, but I am uncertain if they would leave the beauty of columbus ohio...and part with $$$$$ to make the very long trip. I am in need of serious opinion/personal experience.

I will welcome ANY response....If you "rag" on Kauai, please tell me why.

My recent post simply asked for opinion on Kauai...Maui, and how each might for favorably compare to St. John USVI.

The response I received was helpful...but limited.
