I am looking for a weekend getaway approx. 1-2 hours outside of Manhattan that is easily accessible by train. I have heard the towns along the Hudson Valley are beautiful and want to know if anyone can recommend a quaint B&B in the region of $130-$180 per night? Thx!
I would take the train to Rhinecliff or Hudson as both are very pretty areas. the train ride is very pretty as it goes straight along the Hudson River. I enjoy it immensely. It's only 2 and 1/2 hours to Albany by train so you have lots of options.
Before recommending any place, the question is: When are you planning to go? If it's in the next couple weeks, you're probably out of luck to find anything, as the peak foliage season is rapidly approaching.
Cold Spring, about a one hour train ride from NYC has probably the easiest access--the train stops right smack in the center of the small town. There are maybe 5 blocks total of shoppingand restaurants. Very compact.
Look at the Pig Hill Inn and the Hudson House. Pig Hill is probably at the higher end of your price range, not sure about Hudson House.
Rhinebeck is the other classic Hudson Valley town (2 hour ride) for New Yorkers as there are good restaurants and real sidewalks to walk on .

I agree with rhinebeck - that's what I meant to say when I said rhinecliff - there is a WONDERFUL inn there called the Beekman Arms - it supposedly is the oldest still working Inn in the Americas - they have a website - we stayed there and it's beautiful and we had a room with a fireplace. The dinner is excellent and supposedly the sunday brunch is great too. I would wholeheartedly recommend it.
