How much for gas?

Just curious...how much are you paying for gas in your area? The cheapest I've seen here in southwest Virginia this week: $2.59 9/10 for 87 octane. Most stations are $2.64 +/-.

There's a hugh "mega-thread" on this very topic that keep croping up every day or so on this forum. Right now it's not too far down on the list (#34 as I write this post. Try this link:

But really! Is this a subject to discuss? I mean, as soon as you post a price in your neighborhood it's probably changed already.

are the places for gas prices ... unless yakking, rather than prices is what you seek.

What really intrigues me is how the price of gas changes constantly. Shouldn't the price be based on the coast at the time the station's tank is filled--or is that naive?

In Australia our nervous Prime Minister (preferring with good reason not to talk about events in the Middle East) blames the demands of the booming Chinese economy for high oil prices.

At the same time, we have this phenomenon of prices at the pump (every pump) rising by as much as 10c/litre as the weekend approaches, only to drop back by the same amount every Monday. We're still trying to work out why the Chinese economy displays this strange weekly cycle, and how its movements are transferred so quickly to Australian service stations. When I visited China the economy seemed to be booming every day of the week.

No doubt our Fearless Leader has the answer, but so far he's not sharing any insights.

Today I paid $2.82 just south of Portland, OR. That was at Costco. The other places were about 10 cents more.

For what is't worth in the Chicago area on 8/25:

Suburbs range around 3.13 and in city goes up to 3.49 or so. Some are marginally more or less.....

This is for regular unleaded.

Paid $2.73 in Little Rock last night. Prices here fluctate with the onset of holiday seasons. This week will stay about 2.73 and maybe go down a few cents more, but....with a holiday weekend coming up, price per gallon will increase 10-12 cents over that weekend then drift downward again. My grown children do not believe that gas used to be under a dollar per gallon!! We are going to New England in October and expect to pay $3 or more for a gallon of gas.

3.03, Kenai peninsula ..Alaska

In Anchorage, it's usually .20 less or more, depending..an irony and sore subject since the refineries are here, and they truck it up there..actually, for shopping, it's cheaper to rent a plane, fly to Anchorage(splitting the cost with a few others) and fly back.

My teenage son is going to take flying lessons this year, which may mean some interesting trip reports for you(probably after my liver transplant and release from nervous pilot parents anonymous).. J.
