How many times going to Hawaii?
It seems that Hawaii is a favorite/popular destination. How many times a year could you go to Hawaii. I've been to Maui once, (last year) and could go there a few times a year if we had the money. We want to go back so bad.

My wife and I have been to Hawaii three times together since 1993. She has gone twice more without me. We can't get enough time to really go back as often as we would like with work and family and all.
We have been to Oahu (twice), Kauai, Molokai, Maui (twice) and the Big Island. Kauai is still our favorite. Molokai is a close second. Maui rings in third.
We are now planning a return trip in September for a week on The Big Island and a week on Kauai. We bought the new guidebooks and are planning every detail. It should be great.
We hope to retire there one day. That would be the only way we could ever get enough of that place. I guess time will tell.

We have been to Hawaii 3x within the last 4 1/2 years. We love it there and honestly, if we could afford it, we would keep going there every year. We fell in love with it during our honeymoon. We are from NYC so it is a long plane ride and expensive to go there. We envy the folks from CA who can go there for cheaper and quicker. We have been able to go more often because of our frequent flier miles. This year, we are not going because we will be having a baby in a month or so. Maybe next year? We'll see. But we definitely have dreams of retiring there also.

People who get to Hawaii either think it's fine, but other warm places are great, or they get addicted. Among the addicts I think you'd find a lot of folks who would vote for two weeks to a month once a year--maybe more frequent trips if they live on the west coast and don't have to travel as far.

Went to Oahu and Kauai for our honeymoon. Loved it. Had to return a few years later, went to Mauai and Oahu. Had to return a few years later, went to BI and Mauai. Had kids, couldn't go back right away but returned with them when they were 3 & 7, went to Mauai. Now a few years later we're going without them to Kauai. They're mad, we're excited. Just can't stay away.

I try to go at least twice a year. For the last two years, I've been three times each year. I lived there for five years and now live on the Mainland. When I'm feeling down or have a bad attitude or lack balance in my life, I go to Hawaii and always feel better for it. Hawaii no ka oi!

Alohaaaaa,
We've been going over since '89. Only missed 2 years, one being the Inkiki year, for either T'giving/Anniv or New Year's.
We started out in '89 with 14 days (9 Kauai, 3 Molokai and 2 Oahu).
Next few trips it was just Kauai and Molokai (we like golf and "laid back").
Now it's just Kauai. We stayed 3 weeks a few times and we are still trying to get back into the real world. Or as "real" as it gets in Calif!
Never been over in the Summer. Guess we should since we have been toying with moving there in 2-4 years?
If we didn't like to travel to other parts of the US/Europe, I'm sure we'd go at least 2x a year since we are in No Calif. and there are now direct flights from SFO to LIH.

So my wife and I are going to Hawaii for our five year. We went to Kauai for our honeymoon. If anyone had there choice, where would you go this time? We only want to go to one island and we want to try a different one. Any thoughts? And reasons why are appreciated. Thanks

We've been going every other year since 1982. After ten times, the last few to Kauai only, we're seeing a lot more build-up than we'd like. (Although still a pretty island on the outskirts, we stopped going to Oahu when all the skyscrapers took over about ten years ago.) This year - actually, next week - we're on our way to Tahiti, Bora Bora, Moorea, and a couple other French Polynesian islands. We hope it is more of what Hawaii USED to be. Don't take that wrong. I still LOVE Hawaii. It is a total experience!

Roxanne - I actually live in NYC. The flight is long, but well worth it. I've even gone for a long weekend (3 nights). Still worth it. I moved back to the mainland b/c I got tired of living in the middle of an ocean and Hawaii's slower lifestyle. I prefer to be in the middle of things, hence NYC. Hawaii's economy, government and education system also got me down. So, for me, Hawaii's a great place to visit, but I'd rather live and work elsewhere.

. Going back to Kauai in two weeks.
