How can I compare alternate routes on MapQuest of similar sites

I'd like to compare distances on three different routes from Maryland to Vermont. I seem to remember being able to do this on MapQuest a few years ago, but the only option now appears to be the shortest route. I'd appreciate ny advice on how to use MapQuest--or other similar sites--for this.

Select a city on your alternate route about midway to the destination, find the mileage and time, and then search from that point to your destination.
I do it that way on freetrip.com.

Thanks, Ronkala. I was wondering the same thing recently. I wanted to take the Turnpike to my destination, but it only gave me the Interstate route.

Try http://mapsonus.com

If you click on options before having it plot the route, it allows you to choose from "Shortest Route", Fastest Route", "Favor Major Highways" or "Avoid Major Highways".

I travel extensively and would advise you to use AAA if you can. MapQuest, MapBlast (AOL) and Maporama have all given me bad maps time and time again.
Luckily I am a good navigator and am able to figure it out despite the crappy directions. A good example is my 2 year old house and neighborhood cannot be mapped using the online services which is a big problem if you find yourself in this area thinking it's a bunch of big cotton fields! AAA has great maps and they let you know when there is highway construction in progress. It's well worth the 40 bucks to join... and you get all the other services, to boot!
