How Beaver Creek or Vail in Mid-May
Spending 3 days in Colorado and wish to see the Mountains. How is Beaver Creek or Vail in Mid-May. Looks like the Hyatt at Beaver Creek has some good rates but I was wondering if everything shuts down after ski season? Is there things to do and see in May in Vail and Beaver Creek?

The weather in the Vail/Beaver Creek in mid-May can still be pretty unpredictable. However, we have spent two weekends at the Hyatt at Beaver Creek and both were in May and Both were terrific. The first time was the week before Memorial Day and the Second was Memorial Day weekend. I would recommend going as late as possible in May for the better possibility of good weather. The Beaver Creek Ski Lift - (For mountain biking/hiking, and "the view") was only open during the Memorial Day weekend. Both weekends were pretty quiet, very uncrowded and considerably less expensive than Winter or during the summer. Have a good Trip!

Spring has not sprung in the mountains by mid-May(usually). You'll see s smidgen of green grass, and the aspens just beginning to bud. (usually) Snow will probably remain in shaded areas, making high altitude hiking a bit iffy unless properly prepared. On the other hand, the days are probably quite nice. Stores and restaurants are probably open. You might like to stay in Glenwood instead of Vail. It's an hour's drive past Vail. There are great hot springs, there. An hour further is Aspen. It might be a little warmer there, and more springlike.

Randy just got back from the Hyatt at Beaver Creak, stayed there for 10 days and sorry I had to come home. I know I am not answereing your question, never been to B.C. during the month of may. Great skiing in Feb though and the hotel was fab. Great pool, jacuzzi gym and spa. I remember the hotel having a lot of literature on what they have to offer after the ski season---white river rafting, golfing, hiking, biking. Sorry I can't be of any more help. All I can say is the Hyatt is the hotel you want to stay at if you are going to the Vail area. Have fun!

Hi Randy-
Yes, everything does shut down after the season. Usually, a six week reprieve for most locals, who take their vacations AFTER the tourists have left. The rates are so good at 'The Beav' because no one is around. You will have nice weather, and getting a reservation at a better restaurant in Vail Village will be easy, due to the lack of people at that point. Although the locals have fled, the town is still active and alive..with most shops being open. You should experience a more 'quiet and subdued' Vail/BeaverCreek...which isn't bad! If you go, have a great time.

Randy - I completely agree with Amy. Beaver Creek will be VERY quiet in mid-May. Many of the restaurants won't reopen until Memorial weekend and some of the stores. I wouldnt count on hiking, golf, rafting until June either. If you're set on those dates, Vail will definitly have more activity.

Agree that Beaver Creek maybe to quite. We have oten taken advantage of the Cascade Resort and Spa in Vail during the "off" season they usally have a mud package. 99.00 room and spa treatment. we go every spring and fall. Lots of good deals well worth it no matter the weather
