Hotels in Southfield, MI

Hi All - we are still traveling and having to stay in some areas we haven't stayed in before. When we leave the MSU Campus Area we are going to meetings in both the Southfield Area and downtown Detroit. Is the Southfield Area a safe place to stay? Any recommendations on good hotels in the area??? Thanks so much for all your help.

Southfield is safe to stay - just use the same caution that you use while traveling in any other city.

Southfield is fine. Detroit can be fine. Probably staying in Southfield and driving down is your best bet and very easy to do.

According to Tripadvisor, the Springhill Suites, Comfort Suites, and Westin were the best bets.

Another area you might want to consider staying is Dearborn. That is pretty much in the middle of Southfield and Detroit. That is were the Ritz is located and there is a very nice hotel called The Dearborn Inn.

Dearborn is famous for its middle eastern food and home to Greenfield Village. If you have any extra time, it is definitely worth a visit. They also have a museum and a tour of the Ford Rouge Plant:

If you want downtown Detroit, the casino hotels are recently opened. Try the MGM or the MotorCity. I think Greektown is still under construction. The Athenium is a famous downtown hotel and the RenCen is popular. The Book Cadillac won't be open until October, but will be a restored old grand place. Doesn't help you much now though!

I second the Ritz, not sure when you need a hotel, but you may be surprised and get a decent rate.

Thanks All. We decided on the Ritz Carlton in Dearborn. That will work for us.
