Hotels in Sedona
I will be visiting Sedona in August. I am meeting some people there. I am looking for a hotel that is within easy acess to restaurants, shops etc. I may or may not have a car. If I do have a car I don't want to travel far. When the others arrive we will do sightseeing. I will more than likely be on my own for a day or 2. It would be nice to have a spa, pool, and nice restaurants close by. I am open to suggestions. Thanks.

Here is a map that show hotels. You would want something to the right of the green pointer.

As you say it may be more comfortable that time of year after all. The place is Los Abrigados Resort and Spa. It has ok reviews on trip advisor. The other one is Sedona Summit Resorts. Both are timeshare properties. If you know anything about them please let me know. Both are available. Thanks.

I have stayed at both Sedona Summit and Los Abrigados. We spend at least a week in Sedona every year and we always try to get Los Abrigados. The grounds are lovely, most, if not all, of the rooms have been refurbished, and it has a wonderful park along Oak Creek.
Los Abrigados is also in a much better location for walking around than Sedona Summit. LA is right next to Tlaquepaque and several restaurants and shops. It is also within walking distance (maybe 1/2 mile) of uptown Sedona, more restauranst and shops there.
Sedona Summit is a nice property, but it is located in far west Sedona, not within walking distance to much of anything.

Just to give you a heads up, the town of Sedona is something of a disappointment. It's not much. The area hiking and scenery though are spectacular. If you don't have a car, you may want to take a jeep tour.
If you have a car when your friends arrive, have lunch out at the Enchantment Resort. We stayed there one February on a very discounted rate. It is a beautiful resort nestled in Boynton Canyon. It was a special place to stay.

It will be hot in August, so you can go to Slide Rock and swim in the creek. If it was me, I would get a hotel with a pool, as you will need the relief during mid-day. Hilton in Oak creek, Hyatt, and Enchantment have pools, other hotels do too. Good spas in Sedona too.
I hope you like to hike or bike. In August it will be hot but you can hike early to late morning. Used to be able to hike the west fork trail in Oak creek canyon but a bad fire a few weeks ago burned it out completely.
You can do a day in Flagstaff (nice museum, go in afternoon and then go to the Lowell Observatory in early evening to star gaze). And some people like to go to Jerome. We have done horseback riding close to Red rock State Park and the ranger led hikes at that park, esp. If there is a night full moon hike while you are there. The Pulatki and Honanki ruins are very cool. So are the Tuzigoot ruins 20 min from Sedona.
The dining options are good in The Village of Oak Creek and Sedona. I like the shopping at Tlapepaque. We have never gotten bored spending a week there, but we are very outdoorsy types, and have been there every month except July and August. We have been there in late June...it was pretty hot.

There has been a change in my plans. This one never can happen we are now thinking of October 31-November 7th. So it will be much cooler. I am an outdoosey person and I am a walker. A Hiker? Well not so much. We just returned from Europe. Austria, Budapest Hungar, and Prague. They are all "walking cities" and we walked our legs off. Not sure about the hiking term though. I was always somewhat interested in the Vortex tours?
Horsebackriding as long as it is structured and with a horse that does not need a strong handler I might be ok. I have never had good experiences on horses. They always go where they want,or get spooked or take off on me. Not my cup of tea. I would like to shop and just enjoy the restaurants.

You definitely won't get bored in a week especially since you're now thinking of coming in the fall. Hopefully you'll have a car as you can take a day trip to Cottonwood; Old Town Cottonwood now has some good restaurants (The Schoolhouse is outstanding for fine cuisine and Bocce is great for casual...pizza and salads) and wine tasting rooms. Also you can stop at some local wineries (Alcantara is lovely) on the way. Another fun day trip is to Jerome, an old copper mining down with lots of fun shops and, again, good restaurants. A definite second to the suggestion of Flagstaff as the Museum of Northern Arizona is a truly fine museum and the downtown area is also fun to walk around; Beaver Street Brewery is a good restaurant if you need a recommendation.

A week is just about right. You can see just about everything, but not get bored.
As for hikes, there are easy ones, that are more just walks, but off road, and there are HIKES. Check this website and pick out a few easy ones:
http://hikearizona.com/traildex.php?ID=42&RID=9
Things you definitely want to do:
Chapel of the Holy Cross (some claim is a vortex site. Very powerfully spiritual)
Red Rock Crossing
Bell Rock (vortex site)
Pink Jeep Broken Arrow tour (I see is on your list)
Oak Creek Canyon
Montezuma Castle / Montezuma Well
Jerome
Verde Canyon Railroad
If you go to Flagstaff for a day trip, also visit Wupatki National Monument / Sunset Crater and maybe Walnut Canyon.
