Any suggestions for budget hotels for 3 nights in Nov. Is Union Square the best location for getting around? Do you have to have reservations for Alcatraz? Dates are Nov. 20,21. Thanks for your help.

My wife and i stayed at the Hotel Amsterdam. It was a great value at around $60/night w continental bfast. Rooms were small, but what the heck, you just need a place to sleep right? It was about 3-4 blocks from the cable car line and the neighborhood was just fine. Re: alcatraz-- you can usually make reservations the day ahead. Personal favorite spot -- early AM at the japanese tea gardens.

I was in San Francisco in april and three years ago. I recomendet a exelent hotel small but very nice in near union scuare and the bedroomsa have microwave, coffe maker, refregereitor, tv. radio, answer machine and is lovely
