Hotels in Milwaukee, preferrably the northern part
I made a post not long ago regarding the Ryder Cup next September in Kohler, WI. I didn't get a response, perhaps because my post was a little vague. So, I am posting again because I think we have zeroed in on staying in Milwaukee (and will be looking for some recommendations about things to do there), and since Kohler is about 45-60 minutes or so north of Milwaukee, we are looking for decent, but not necessarily 5-star, accommodations in the northern Milwaukee area, unless that is a particular area to avoid. Any thoughts will be appreciated. We are four men, two in their 60s and two in their 30s.

Unfortunately, I have found many, many properties are booked for the Ryder Cup dates, including the Pfister. I'm sure travel groups have probably reserved a lot of rooms for their tour packages. One of the few places that I could find rooms was the Patawatomi Hotel and Casino, so in order to have something secured, I made reservations there, but they can be cancelled up until the day of arrival if something better comes along. I wonder if it's likely that things will open up later? Does anyone have experience with these types of big events? I really thought Milwaukee was large enough to handle the extra traffic without selling out entirely.

. . . Meant to add -- I attended in 2002 at the Belfry which is very close to Birmingham. Birmingham is MUCH larger than Milwaukee and finding accommodations was an ordeal - even 17 years ago before the event really exploded on the scene.

>>Potawatomi Hotel and Casino
I’ve actually stayed here. It’s a high rise with an attached high rise parking garage which I think is free. You could walk downtown, but it’s not a nice walk, 1-1/2 miles. It’s in an old industrial area pressed against the river with weird highway/street access.
In general I’ve found Milwaukee to have a small hotel selection and have usually ended up on the west side. Did you check the newer Residence Inn on the north side?
As an aside, Milwaukee is full of character architecturally and the lakefront can be stunning. I really don’t see why similarly sized but aesthetically bland Austin TX is so much more popular in comparison, at least in the summer.
Very close to the Potawatomi hotel is a 15th century French chapel on the Marquette U campus.

Adding: The Ryder Cup is actually just north of Sheboygan on Lake Michigan. Kohler is just west of Sheboygan. I see that Ticketmaster is saying it’s in Kohler when you buy the tickets. Check the Ryder Cup website, it’s in Haven WI.
I’d keep an eye on the Fairfield Inn opening in June in Sheboygan. They are not taking reservations yet.
