Hotels in Ft. Lauderdale

Can anyone make any suggestions regarding the hotels in Ft. Lauderdale. Am looking for something nice and on the beach. Currently thinking of the Yankee Trader or Yankee Clipper. All Suggestions welcome!
Thanks

The Marriott Harbor Beach is a large resort hotel. They have a good beach and beautiful pool are plus all the resort amenities.

Hello again, not sure what happened to my other reply.
Anyway as i was saying, we live in England and travel to Florida each year.
Having stayed at the Yankee Trader a number of years ago i can say that the Hotel is alright, nothing special, the rooms are clean and tidy, the beach is opposite.
One of the problems we found was that the hotel is split into two buildings and we found that the building we were in was a long way from the Hotel reception/entrance. You also have to pay to park your car , i think it was $5 per day although the car park was underground which kept the car out of the sun.
The best thing about the Trader is the pool area is on top of one of the hotel buildings and is great for relaxing with a cool drink.
It must have been 5 years since i stayed there so it must have changed a bit.
One thing that may interest you is that we travel with Virgin Holidays who rate the Trader as "3-star" and the Clipper as "4-star" for virtually the same price. So the Clipper may be worth a try.

Marriott's Harbor Beach is right on the beach and is a lovely facility with a beautiful pool, etc. but it is away from A1A. I would look into the Marriott's time share facility and see if you can get a package. You would be obligated to attend a 90 min. presentation but the location is a incredible and all the rooms have fabulous views, two bedrooms, jacuzzis, etc. and ocean or intracoastal facing balconies. It sits on top of a retail multistory center with about 6 restaurants with water views. Great location for all the beach action. I believe that the Yankee Trader needs a huge upgrade or will be torn down in the next few years. As an aside, the 17th st. bridge is a mess and that is the way out to the beach at the Yankee Trader/ Marriott Harbor Beach end.
