Would like some recommendations about where to stay in Burlington or South Burlington.

There are a plethora of chain hotels in South Burlington. They are clustered either on Shelburne Road or Williston Road. In South Burlington, I would recommend the Sheraton. It's located right off the highway and next to UVM. It's also a quick (not even 5 minute) drive to downtown (or you can walk if you don't mind walking up the huge hill on the way back!).
In downtown Burlington, the Radisson is the only full-service hotel (unless a new one has sprung up in the past few years). It's in a great location (a block or so away from Church St Marketplace) and has great views of Lake Champlain (be sure to request a lake-view room). There are also a couple fairly new Inns/B&Bs in downtown Burlington that I'm not familiar with-hopefully someone can comment on those.

You need to be more specific. What level of comfort are you looking for? What is your budget?

There are lots of the chain hotels, Hojo's, Sheraton, Holiday Inn, etc. in town, but the the nicest, as far as location goes, is the Radisson. It's right across the street from Lake Champlain, so if you get a room on the front side you'll see the lake and the Adirondacks across in the distance. Very nice. Try for that one first.

The Shelbourne Inn is lovely and a visit to the museum and farm, a delight.

We stayed at the Shelburne and loved it! I would go back anytime. I think they close for the winter at the end of October, so staying there would depend on the date of your trip.

My family and I stayed at a charming family run hotel called The Wilson Inn(sept. 99). It was perfect for us and the management was very nice. We had a two level suite with a kitchen which was very reasonably priced. They placed Vermont cheese and crackers in the room before our arrival. Provided popcorn for the microwave, breakfast was included. There was a playground for the kids and bicycles for them to use as well. They had a web site. Don't remember what it was exactly. It was clean, nice and not too fancy which is what we needed at the time

You've got lots of hotel advice so mine would be redundant but you must check out Libby's Blue Line Diner (in Winooski, a suburb of Burlington). One of the authentic diner experinces left in New England and the best hot turkey sandwich and homemade tapioca anywhere!

I live in Boston and I don't like big hotels, so for me it was the Shelboune Inn. They have croquet for anyone that wants to play. Ask for a room NOT ABOVE THE KITCHEN. one night the sound of the swinging doors, kept me awake.

I am also going to Burlington this month and we are staying at the Lang House on Main Street. It seems to be nice and not too expensive ($150 a night for our room). If you want to check it out the have a website www.langhouse.com

Take a look at the Inn at Essex. Very nice inn just a couple of miles from Burlington with a branch of the New England Culinary Institute; future chefs at work.
