Hotels Between Nashville & Knoxville

I hope some people can give me advice on this one. I will be going up to Nashville to see a friend and we are then driving to Knoxville.

Is there a good place mid-way along I-40 to stop for the night? I don't want a roach motel.

Are you sure you want to stop on the way? It's only a 3-hour trip. Why not stay in Nashville or drive on through to Knoxville? There's not much between Nashville and Knoxville -- Cookeville, Crossville, Harriman/Rockwood/Kingston...I wouldn't be wild about staying in any of them. I'd rather just get on to Knoxville. Or better yet, stay in Nashville.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have to talk with my friend & see what he wants to do (he's driving)!

Staying in Nashville makes sense, but I'm afraid that going to Knoxville on I-40 might be a nightmare on a football day.

Hello Christina,

The game starts @ 7:00pm EST. Travel up until then will be the I-40 500 with fans trying to get to the game. If you leave an hour or two before kick off, you will be OK in either direction. Have a safe trip.

If the game is at 7:00 PM, I-40 will be busy from mid-morning through about 5:00. If you are up and going bright and early that morning, you should be at your destination before the traffic gets too heavy. It's definitely wise to avoid the football traffic.
