Hotel w/ Ocean View near Sarasota
I am looking for a hotel near/on the ocean within 1/2 of Sarasota. Any suggestions? It's a wedding present for friends who are having a simple wedding near us for their wedding night. Any help you can offer would be great.

Since i don't know your price range I'll make a couple of suggestions. For luxury, look into the Longboat Key Club on the south end of LBK. Mid-range price, I'd suggest the Half Moon Beach Club. The Hyatt is on the Bay and it is very nice. There are many small properties if you do a search through the chamber. This time of year, you may be able to get a good price on a higher end property.

The Hyatt Sarasota is quite nice - good location on Sarasota Bay. Very nice area - Ritz-Carlton building new hotel nearby.
There aren't beaches in Sarasota since it's on the Bay rather than Gulf of Mexico. But if you wanted beach place you might check Longboat Key, Anna Maria Island, or Lido Key. On Longboat, a very reasonably priced resort is Silver Sands (reasonable prices rare on Longboat). Not fancy but good value and right on the Gulf - walk out your door and you're on the beach.
Hope this helps.

Michelle,
I'm pretty certain that AAA offers summer specials at the LBK Club and Half Moon Resort. If you call the Hyatt directly, they may also have some specials. They have a great brunch, but I'm not sure if they offer it in the summer. FYI, the two resorts I have mentioned are about 10 minutes from Sarasota mainland and minutes from St. Armand's Key which has wonderful dining choices and shopping.

for location and view you cant beat the Holiday Inn Lido Key-stayed there in may and loved the location. I did feel the rooms were outdated and rundown. But for the price they were not too bad. You might want to consider it if walking distance to st.armands circle is important-which it was to us. The beach at Lido is beautiful!!!!!! That is more important to me that the actual hotel itself-this is why we would not stay at Hyatt. Good luck
