Hotel to train station Chicago
We will be staying in the Sheraton Tower hotel in Chicago and have to catch the Empire Builder train to Seattle. What is the distance to the station? What transportation would be best? Thank you for any advice.

Unless you are traveling with a carry on only, spring for a taxi. If you only had 1 bag, I would walk it. West and south on Wacker and turn west at the Willis Tower on Jackson. Cross the river and you're there. Without luggage, I have walked all the way from Union Station to the Field Museum on Lakeshore Drive.
My guess would be 1.5 miles from the hotel to Union Station.
Enjoy your trip west on the Empire Builder. They top off the fuel in Whitefish. Stretch your legs there and you will want to come back sometime to see Glacier NP.

I don't know exactly where that hotel is, but we were staying at a hotel near Millenium Park and arrived by train. We took the water taxi which was a different twist on the normal car route. We did just have carry-on luggage though.

Thanks for that. Good to know it's only 1.5 miles. Hardly seems worth getting a taxi but we will have 2 large suitcases. We are travelling from UK and going on Alaskan cruise from Seattle, so suitcases will be quite large. So taxi it is!! Thanks again.

The Empire Builder leaves at 2:15PM. Be in the waiting room with your carry on by 1:50. Check your luggage that you will not see before you get to Seattle as soon as you get to the station. You can store your carry on bags for an hour or two in the lockers in Union Station if you want to spend an hour or 2 to take a walk to take the tour of the Willis (Sears) Tower.
Make sure anything you will need on the train, (toothbrush, razor, tickets, change of clothes etc.) in your carry on.
The taxi will drop you off on Adams near the east entrance.
You should have enough time after checkout to take at least an hour walk. There are several restaurants inside Union Station for your lunch.

Thank you so much for this info. We wondered what time we should get to the station. I suppose once the bags are checked in you can relax. I heard that some people keep their suitcases with them in the roomette on the train, but that would mean leaving them unattended if you go to dining area. Much better to take hand luggage with essentials I would think. Thanks again
