Hotel San Remo, Las Vegas

I'm booking a Southwest package to Las Vegas for 3 nights in August. The SW reservationist recommended the Hotel San Remo as a good mid-range choice with great location, a block off the Strip. However, I can't find any current comments on the hotel here, and wondered if anyone has recent experience with it. Also looking at Monte Carlo, which is somewhat more expensive -- any comments on this one would also be appreciated. Thanks!

I`d stay around Flamingo Hilton,Bally`s,Treasure Island and that area. It is more central to the strip. Are those places in your package? You`ll do a lot of walking as it is.I like it in the middle of things.I know everyone has an opinion.Have fun where ever you go.

I've stayed at the Imperial Palace (right across from Caesar's Palace) twice and find it to be a cheaper way to stay right near the center of the Strip. I've never been to the San Remo, but if you have seen its location on a map and it really is within close walking distance of the Strip, I'd say stay there and save $. I've been there 5 times and don't find where I actually sleep to make a big difference. To much to see and do outside of one hotel anyway.

However, if walking isn't your thing, then factor in the cost of several daily taxi fares (maybe $7-10 each way) and see if you are really saving as much as it appears.

The San Remo is a DUMP!!
You're the victim of a travel package hard sell. Places like San Remo can't attract business on their own so they pump travel agents and package vendors to sucker people to their property who don't know any better.
You won't read reviews for San Remo because there aren't many people who stay there who will crow about it on a travel forum. The problem for places like San Remo (and Imperial Palace is not much above a Motel 6) is that so many nice new hotels have sprung up on the strip, competing with each other, that they've stolen most of the business from second and third rate hotels.
Monte Carlo versus San Remo? Worth every penny. Believe me, you'll enjoy your visit immensely more at MC.

Lynne, My vote goes for the Monte Carlo as well. I've never stayed at the San Remo but, everytime I go to Vegas I always go there to play the slots. I always leave with more money than I came in with. If this is your first time to Vegas I would highly suggest that you stay on the strip. Go to lvol.com and check out the reviews for the San Remo and Monte Carlo. Good Luck.
