We are traveling to Washington DC for an extended weekend visit in May. Two 50 something frequent travelers looking for hotel recommendations. We do not like the cookie cutter type hotels, but prefer historic or trendy type places. Not even sure what area to stay in. Doing Holocaust museum, Air and Space, National Portrait and a couple others. Plan on walking a lot!! We are foodies, so looking for some great restaurants as well. Should we stay by the Capitol Mall, Georgetown, Dupont Circle?? Really interested in everyones opinions. We can easily navigate the trains or uber. Flying into DCA not planning on renting a car. Let me know what you all think! Thanks in advance.

Hotel prices in DC vary wildly from day to day and event to event. I was recently looking at a couple of very high end hotels for a 2-night stay. Originally was supposed to be a Monday and Tuesday night and the price was $750 per night. Flash forward and my meeting was changed, so I went on Thursday and Friday of that same week instead and the price for the same room was $750 for two nights. The same thing has happened to me previously.

So that said, you might want to look at the Hotel Monaco in Penn Quarter (great location), the Hay-Adams near the White House. There are many other non-cookie cutter hotels, but check these out to see if they are within your budget for your dates.

How about the Mayflower, a lovely historic hotel. As sf7307 says, the prices vary (a lot!) from day to day, so I don't know if the Mayflower would be in your price range for your dates or not. I've stayed there several times and always enjoyed it.

As sf pointed out, hotel prices will vary. The second week of May is typically when the National Association of Realtors host their annual convention, and May 13-19 is National Law Enforcement Memorial Week. Hotel availability may be limited or costly.

I love The Woodley Park Guest House. It is a B&B but more like a boutique hotel.

Thank you all! All of the hotels you suggested look lovely. We decided to go with the Hay Adams for this trip. It looks perfect!! Does anyone have restaurant recommendations?? We need to take our daughter and her new boyfriend out for a special dinner. Would love your input.

DC is a foodie's haven. To make any kind of recommendation, we would need to know more about what kind of food and/or price range you have in mind. Have you searched this forum for threads on restaurants in DC? I believe there are quite a few....
