Hotel recommendation in Atlanta

We're taking a trip with our grandson (12 yrs old) to Atlanta in Feb. for 5 days. We'll be flying in, but rather than renting a car, I'd prefer to taxi to a downtown hotel and then walk/cab/public transportation to the various major sites (Olympic Park, aquarium, zoo, College Football Hall of Fame, Atlanta Falcon Stadium, etc.) in/near the downtown area. If you're detecting a sports-oriented trip, remember that this is for my grandson (we've been to Atlanta before).

Can you recommend a good centrally located hotel that wood support these plans?

Oops! Did I really say "wood" in that last sentence?
It sucks to get old.

Starrs, I am definitely NOT a spammer! Please check my postings on these forums since 2003. If you think someone (perhaps posting as me?) is posting spam on any of these forums, please point me to those postings and notify a moderator (as I have already done).

No -- starrs is responding to a spammer that hit the boards this morning. Apparently the posts were deleted 'in bulk' and the "comments removed by . . ." note is missing.

I'm sure she wasn't calling you a spammer . . . (I hope)

My apologies, starrs.

For your list, the Embassy Suites at Centennial Olympic Park is about perfectly located. Love Embassy Suites when traveling with kids as they get their own closed off room to sleep in.

I was being kind to use the word "spammer". It was porn.

I'd pick the Hilton Garden inn but the ES is a good choice too.

Brian, starrs, thanks for your suggestions.

Turns out that neither hotel had availability for the dates or room type that I wanted.

I eventually booked at the Hampton Inn, which appears to be close enough to walk to the venues I want as well as the downtown area.

I'm sorry I missed this post, but in case you ever do this in future and are looking for accommodations, I liked the Artmore Hotel, being right by the MARTA Arts Center stop, from which I was able to walk and metro for the rest of my trip.
