Hi! Has anyone stayed or seen the Sheraton Suites in the Old Town District in Alexandria? We are staying there for a week and would like some opinions. Is it safe? It is rated 3 stars, so should be okay. Thanks, Deb

I think the Sheraton Suites is on the north end of Old Town. If I'm right, I've seen comments on this site from less than pleased people who've stayed there. But you can do a search and see what you come up with.

It's not a bad location, but you do have to walk a bit to really be in the heart of Old Town. I lived across the GW Parkway from the hotel, and it's a good 15-20 minute walk. There are a few restaurants nearby (the Royal for breakfast, but only breakfast).

Hi, Thanks so much- now I am getting worried. Do you recall what the complaints were about? Any other ideas for a place to stay? With two teens, I would like a pool, a suite, and free breakfast, close to a Metro Station. I don't ask for much, do I? Deb

Well, that Sheraton isn't near a Metro station, either.
What about the Embassy Suites (I think) near the King Street Metro stop?

You know, I've completely led you astray. NOW I know what hotel you're talking about. I'm sorry. I haven't heard bad comments about it, but it's about a 20-minute walk to the Braddock Road metro from the hotel, and it can be tricky to find the station if you don't know where you're going. The path also goes through some interesting neighborhoods.

It's not a bad location, but you're kind of on the fringes of Old Town, and you can do a lot better, location. I've never been in the hotel, so can't speak to that.

I've heard lots of good things about Embassy Suites. It's right across the street from King Street Metro. It's a pleasant walk (except on days like today, very hot and humid) down King Street to the Potomac River (about 20 minutes) or I think the hotel has a shuttle bus.

There's also a Hilton next to the metro. Nice lobby, but that's all I've seen of it. Also, a Hampton Inn is being built on King Street (it's about 2.5 blocks from the metro). However, I don't think it's open yet.

This isn't close to a metro, but there's a Holiday Inn on King Street, more in the heart of Old Town. I assume they have a metro shuttle. Don't confuse this with the Holiday Inn that's very near the Sheraton Suites.

If you're looking to spend money, the Morrison House just off King Street is probably the best hotel in Old Town. I remember discovering that the Italian soccer team stayed there during the World Cup in '94. Anyway, again, not walking distance from the metro, but they may provide transportation.

Once again, I'm very sorry. There's another hotel in Old Town which people seem to really dislike. I just can't remember the name right now, and I confused it with the Sheraton.

No problem and thank you so much, both of you, for the info. The Embassy is wanting $200/night- ouch, but I might keep bugging them. Any tips on seeing the sights in DC? My husband and 2 boys live for sports. Which Civil War Battlefield shall we go to? Thanks again, I guess I'll keep my reservations until I find something better.
