hotel in los angeles
I will be going to Los Angeles with my 13 year old daughter for spring break. I am looking for a nice hotel with a great fitness center. My daughter wants to go shopping. I want to also take her to some L.A. sites. I have read about the Westin Bonadventure. They sound like they have a great fitness center. I have read mixed reviews about the hotel. I am looking for suggestions on hotels and areas to stay. Thanks.

I really wouldn't suggest that you stay in downtown L.A. ... the Bonaventure is a nice hotel, but probably most of the sights you'll want to see is out of downtown. And the streets roll up as soon as the office workers leave.
Perhaps look into Santa Monica, Newport, even Hollywood. Not familiar with the hotels that have great fitness centers, sorry.

I wouldn't recommend downtown either. Consider Hotel Sofitel near the Beverly Center and not far from The Grove. Or Le Meridien would be fun for a 13 yr old, it's where the American Idol families usually stay. They both have fitness rooms but you'd have to check on how great they are. Renaissance Hollywood, where the Oscars were just held, might be another one to check...easy to get to Universal Studios Tour from here if that's in your plans, and easy bus ride to The Grove shopping plaza.
You probably will need to decide whether or not you want a great vacation in a fun location, or if working out in a great facility is more important to you.

Don't forget that Santee Alley and the Fashion District are downtown. Depends what kind of shopping you want to do.
Downtown doesn't quite roll up as much as it used to. The Bonaventure is a good location if you decide to stay downtown.

I wouldn't stay downtown, either. Stay in west L.A. Santa Monica would be the ideal place to go with a 13 year-old. You can shop at the Promenade, go to the beach and drive to the beautiful neighboring areas. http://www.shuttersonthebeach.com/home.html is a good pick with a great fitness room. http://lemerigothotel.com/equipment.htm is also another excellent choice.
