Have you stayed at the Hotel Escalante in Naples? How far to the beach and is the beach nice? Would you recommend this for a nice place to stay??? THanks, Betty

See the other post titled "Romantic lodging in Naples". Two blocks to beach, but a very nice, refined and quiet place to stay.

The beach is a short 3 block walk from the Hotel Escalante. I have been by the outside but have not stayed there. I did give the name to friends who did stay and they were very happy with it. The beach in Naples is one of the best in south west Florida. This would be a lovely place to stay. The restaurants are great and just a short walk either on 3rd or also on 5th. Another nice hotel is the Edgewater Beach which is about a ten minute drive from the Escalante, but is ocean front. Enjoy!

We stayed at Hotel Escalante last April and loved it!! It is one block from the beach and very close to downtown Naples. The grounds are beautiful and would recommend a room off the pool. Very small, intimate hotel.

I walk by the Hotel Escalante every day on my "beach and latte" walk. It is a beautiful place with a great setting. Older buildings that were totally gutted and rebuilt just over a year ago, landscaped magnificently, and I understand run with great charm and professionalism. I recommend it often and have had nothing but raves, except that their prices had jumped dramatically this season to near Ritz levels. Now I understand their bookings are down dramatically and they are actually selling off rooms as "condos" and put back into a rental pool. I also understand you may be able to strike a real deal if you push them, especially for stays of a week or more. And I would suppose it wouldn't hurt if you mentioned that you understand that there are units for sale that you are interested in checking out. They have their own website www.escalante.com
