I need some more information in order to be able to really help you. Is this the Fodor's Boston book you are referring to? Brian is right, those rates sound extremely low for Boston. Why don't you post some of the hotel names, and I can let you know approximately how much they probably are. (I live in Boston).

Check the Boston hotel rates at www.180096Hotels.com (think that's right maybe drop the s) You can plug in how many nights, how many people, how many beds, dates you're checking for (even if its just appropriate).

Those rates seem very low to me as well, except perhaps in mid-winter. www.180096hotel.com is a good place to check. But, also check www.expedia.com. There are more choices, sometimes the rates are lower, and you don't have to pay when booking. Before booking on the web, though, be sure to call the hotel directly and compare rates. Sometimes higher, sometimes lower. Make a note of the cancellation policy when you book. A few days before your trip, call around for rates. Some places discount unbooked rooms, others charge a premium (and be sure to call where you've booked) for "leftover" rooms.
