Honolulu hotel help!
Hi all. I'm taking a cruise that leaves from the Honolulu Harbor this Sunday, but we are flying in on Saturday night and need recommendations on basic and convenient hotels to stay in Honolulu that is close to both the airport and the dock. We aren't looking for a fancy resort - just a clean room at a cheap rate with a location that will be easy to get to (by cab, bus, or hotel shuttle).
Having never been to Honolulu, any recommendations would be a huge help! Thanks alot.

There are a few hotels right at the airport, but there really is nothing in the immediate area to see or restaurants to eat at. I would stay at these places only if you arrive late. An airport hotel will probably be your cheapest option.
The closest hotel to the dock is the Executive Center hotel, and it primarily caters to business travelers. It is in the middle of downtown and is literally about 4 blocks from the dock.
A hotel that is still pretty close is the Ala Moana hotel, which is about 5-10 minutes from the dock. It's connected to the shopping mall, it's close to the beach park and there are tons of restaurants nearby.

Having stayed at a couple budget minded places in Waikiki, my fave is www.queenssurf.com I like it even better than some of the moderate+ places! Clean, kitchenette, great views, right next to Kapiolani Park, nice decor, comfy ben & linens. Loved it!

If you are getting into Honolulu late at night and only need a place to shower and sleep, the Honolulu Airport Hotel will work for you. It is cheap, adjacent to the airport, not too far from the dock, no frills. Not too many restaurants close by but there is a Starbucks in the back of the hotel parking lot.

I second chepar's recommendation of Executive Center--many cruise ship passengers like this hotel for its proximity to the pier.
I hope you get a chance to check out Aloha Tower Marketplace before you board! stop by the guest services kiosk for your discount coupons. Once you board, you can't get off till you reach the next port. so you might as well try to visit Chinatown and the surrounding area first. (you don't leave till 8 so you could explore until 2-4 pm or so.)
